GPL: outside view acceptable?

by Anssi Lehtin » Wed, 04 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Hi,

I've never learnt to control the car from the inside, it seem even more
twitchy than on the outside. Is this to be considered "softcore"? Also,
the shaking hands (problem with the wheel/gamecard I suppose. Yes, I have
tried directinput plus the other thing. Is there no way to set a "dead
zone" in GPL?).

So far I've only played the demo (1:06:61 in the Lotus (outside view,
automatic transmission)). I get like 1:09 in the inside view, and crash
often.

P.S. Even I consider using the auto shifting to be a bit on the wussy
side. Is it also slower?

Yes. :)

No, AFAIK.

Not necessarily, as your times prove. The automatic shifts a bit
early, however. Anyway, I got used to shifting manually in GPL. I find
it much easier to judge my speed when I can control RPM *and* gear.

Try downloading CTFJ from http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/rlchurch

Its a utilities that lets you helps with centering, as well as allowing you to
adjust deadzone and scaling for all joystick axes.

GPL: outside view acceptable?

Hi Anssi,

I had the same problem with the 'shaking' hands, but after running the
DirectX diagnosis tool, where a xxx.vxd (IMO responsible for the
joystick action) was found out of date. I took the one from the GPL CD -
but it didnot improve :-(  .
After that I deleted all my soundcard and video drivers in SAFE MODE and
reinstalled them. Surprise: the wheel and stick was smooth in
DirectInput and 'optimized stick, andere Eingabe in German' :-)

Try it out,

Jrgen Pilsl
