Be careful playing around with acpi settings, typically if you change it
your going to want to reinstall windows or possibly have problems.

I couldn't find that setting in my BIOS. (assuming you meant PCI-->DRAM
prefetch).

I've got a via chipset, award bios. I wonder if there's an equivalent
setting?

I have the same question -- Can't find that setting in my BIOS.  Mobo is an
Epox 8Kha+.  Can anyone give details on where to adjust this setting?

I have an Asus P3V4X with award bios, it's under the advanced chip
configuration options, where SDRAM latency settings etc. are located.  It's
PCI to DRAM Prefetch.

Good Luck

Dave,

I've heard back from John Payne for the second time.  The original setting
of 6 caused an intolerable delay.  He went back and changed it to 3 as I
suggested in reply, and he says it now works!  He took his Herculese card
out and resinstalled the SB Live and all is well.  I guess it takes a little
experimenting depending on your system's configuration.

True. I had a problem trying to switch midstream on XP. But I think there is
a way around it if you really want to change it. Just requires a bit of
searching on the web. I've disabled ACPI myself because all your cards must
be ACPI compliant and implemented correctly, otherwise you will get problems
with it. I've also read on one overclocking website that having ACPI enabled
can cause frame rate slow down in games. Hard to believe, but that's what
their tests showed.

Can this line in the core.ini file to the following
and the crackling goes away on SBLIVE

force_default_buffer_size=5
