Viper - novice times...

by Jay Wolf » Wed, 22 Sep 1999 04:00:00

...there was a post just a couple of days ago looking for viper times. i
have had the program for about two weeks and have put in about 25 laps or so
per track. here are my times. i also race in GPL and am listed in the "sucks
badly" class of drivers, with sucking equalling anything over 1:09 at
watkins glen.
all times are in quick race mode.

                    NORMAL            BACKWARDS
BEMIDJI        36.62                    37.21
CASTLEGREEN        1:26.49            1:32.17
SILVER?        1:01.72            1:16.24
RIDGE ROUTE        1:41.34        1:52.95
DAYTON        1:02.51        1:02.94
DUNDAS        1:47.84        1:47.69
SUNSET?        2:17.05        2:30.76
ROCK ISLAND        1:40.25        1:47.64

all of my backwards times were done after only three laps, so i don't think
that those times are too strong. how do you measure up?

Respectible for only 25 laps but you need to shave a few more seconds off the
lap times for each track to beat my times and I'm slow(I'm in the Sucks Badly
Class also).  Good work for the time you've spent.   Paul

yup that was my post :)
I've since worked my time down to 1:41:55 on Dundas, I haven't really
practiced on the other tracks. But I've done waaaayyyy more than 25 laps, i
figure at least 10 laps a day, usually around 20 laps per day. Start out
with a understeering car to get your line down, then bring it closer and
closer to neutral, when it gets to the point that your times start going
down, give it a little more understeer, then just work with that setting.
I'm using 55 wing in the front, 40/45 in the rear
I can swing around all the 90 degree bends at over 90mph all the time, on my
great laps i take em at 96, 97mph. The last 90 degree or so bend before the
esses, you should be able to take at 100mph if you get the right line, the
right line is the most important thing on that turn. If I catch the wrong
line on that turn I'll get all the way down to 85mph.
I started out with a 1:49 time on Dundas after I had done about 5/10 laps,
so just work at it and you'll get there.
Use LOW abs and auto clutch.
If you want a list of setups, just email me, or if anyone wants i can post
them here.
