Feedback wheels - once more!

by Stan Mars » Mon, 19 Jun 2000 04:00:00

Hi everyone . .
Im stupidly thinking about wasting some of my money on a FF wheel.
I've seen posts here occasioanally but I cant remember which people seem to
like more.  I checked Deja and found a lot of people liking a lot of wheels,
but my choices are really - MS sidewinder FF, Logitech W FF and I found the
ferrari wheel for sale on an online store as well.  Locally I've seen the MS
and LWFF for around $300 Aussie dollars.  In the capitals I've seen the LWFF
advertised for about $255 or so.  The Ferrari wheel is about $235 from an
online store, and its the only place I've seen it.

I think the guillemot looks the best (I know that doesnt affect the game!)
followed by the LWFF and ms.  I've had a little try of the MS and maybe the
LWFF (but this was ages ago) and I remember it being a little notchy.  I
also dont seem to see any posts from people with MS wheels.

I've got a MS sidewinder 3d pro joystick and its great to be able to have
varying degrees of steering, throttle . . . but its just sooo easy to
overcorrect.

Im still not sure If I should buy one, but your views would be great!
Thanks
Pete

I have the LWFF and like it quite a bit. How much CPU
cycled does the Ferrarri wheel use compared to the LWFF?
The MS Wheel uses quite a bit more CPU cycles (1.5Mil) than
the the LWFF (50K) per FF event. If the Guillemot is the old TM
FF wheel, then it used 3.5Mil CPU cycles per FF event.

If the Ferrarri is the Guillemot you are referring to then I have
no idea. I think allot of people like the wheel though.

I have the excellent Ferrari wheel and it is really good. it feels good,
looks good and has good ff effects. I thinks it is great. it has a dodgy
paddles but they can be fixed. If I broke it id get another one, or maybe
that tasty looking number from act labs with that nice shifter but that I
have read has some problems.

I need to replace my hardworking but almost
completely worn out T2.

Given that GPL is the main use for the steering wheel I'm wondering
if I should only consider buying a FF wheel.
Does anyone know of reasons not to get FF?

Feedback wheels - once more!

Hi, I have the MSFF and like it. I tried the logi wheel but just couldn't
get myself to like the short throw of the pedals even though the wheel
itself is smoother and more comfortable, the MS has better pedals though
IMO.
I havent used the Ferrari wheel, but I saw one in the shop and it felt a
bit stiff, though that may be because it wasn't powered / new and would wear
in.

If you went for the MS wheel you could use the same set of software that you
use for the joystick so you won't need to install more. If your joystick or
the new MSFF is USB you could leave both connected all the time which saves
a lot of messing about when changing games ;)
I had trouble with the Logi software when I tried it, it's not as easy to
setup as the Microsoft.

The only reason I can think of to not own a FF wheel is if you
have a ECCI or TSW. You don't want *ALL* of that money
wasted and you need to justify your purchase to the very
end.

What are the prices for ECCI and TSW?
The FF solution could be:
new LWFF with ball bearings (about $200)
or refurbished LWFF with ball bearings ($??)
CH-pedals ($??)

Anybody can fill in the missing prices?

Jens

BTW Who sells the refurbished wheels? If it's not Logitech themselves I could
imagine to convince them to put the bb's already in :-)
