For GPL anything below 300ms is adequate.
And he's right about the DSL/Cable lag due to fluctuations too.
I'm on cable, but when I have GPL league races I connect with my 56k6
modem instead, which I even set on 28k8 for a more stable connection.

Got a funny rig on my system:
If the fps exceed the monitors refresh rate, I got stutter (seems to be a
syncronizing problem).

So, also try to push up the details to arttifically lower the fps.

BTW: Took me 6 months to find that :-(

It is projected that by 2004 55% of people on the internet will still be
using 56K modems.
And you are saying that one must have cable or DSL to play MP.
Hehe....clueless is you.

Define 'must.'   For a large group to effectively play the current ISI F1
sims...you MUST have broadband.  For GPL or N2002 this is NOT a 'must.'
There term 'Low Ping Boys' didn't just get made up as an excuse....EVERY
FPS allows 56kers to play, but they are at a disadvantage to
broadbanders...doesn't mean they still won't do well, but they are playing
with a handicap...just like when Doom came out and the 486 guys creamed the
386 users.
So lets say.....for BEST RESULTS on most racing simulations...Broadband
is a distinct advantage.

Cable certainly helps in shooter games due to ping rate, but saying that ive
seen plenty of CS/UT games online where servers are well and truely owned by
someone on a 56k with a 300ping...

In shooters theres nothing that makes up for raw talent not even a 30ping,
certainly helps lamers appear better then they are, of course when a
non-lamer appears on a 30ping its certainly goodnight!
