NR99: A bit jittery in 3dfx

I find that NR99 seems to be a bit jittery when running under 3dfx.  it is
mainly apparent when going round tighter corners on the short ovals.  I am
downloading the latest V2 drivers now aswell as the latest DX7 to see if
that helps.

It fails to my memory, but didn't NR99 had a file in your root folder called
readme3d.txt or something like that ? It has possible options you can add to
your nr99.ini and autoexec.bat  to tweak graphical settings such as
anti-aliasing and so.  What are yours ?  NR99 has a pretty average Glide
rasterizer, it was known to be sluggish, buggy.

I bet it happens all the time when your exiting Turn4 ?  It's related to the
cars in the pits.  They never patched it.

What 3dfx card do you have?  I didn't notice anything like that (running on
a V2 1000 12MB, Glide 2.53, DX6) but then again I'm using N3 now....a
worthwhile upgrade IMO.

I can't seem to find much info in the readme files I will have another look
though and probarbly return to software mode as there is little benefit in
3dfx.

Well I have now found out that my problem is a slow frame rate!  Can you
believe it?  I run GPL at 36fps (except in heavy traffic) at 600x800 with
all the bells and whistles on, with no trouble at all.  NR99 is running at
less than 20fps at its max resolution of 480 x 640 under 3dfx with all
detail, I am only having 12 cars drawn in front and 3 behind.

Now I have gone back to software mode and eveything is running smoothly
again.  A case of my Voodoo 2 doing a bit of Graphics deceleration for a
change it seems!

I'm using a Voodoo 2 12mb, works fine with GPL.  Anyway, I'm back to
software mode in NR99 and its working fine again.

NR99: A bit jittery in 3dfx

Chris,
I have an ancient AMd K-6 200, 32 meg ram, and a "Screamin 3D" Rendition card.
I run NR99 in DOS mode with all graphic features on full, 14 cars ahead and 2
behind, and get 25-30 fps on most tracks, running a full 39 car field. The only
time I get any stutter is Martinsville and Bristol, in the turns running in
heavy traffic. I don't think it's documented, but I found that I can launch
NR99 in DOS using the same command line as for NR2, thus enabling DMA access
and, if needed, 4 bit graphics. You really should be getting much better
performancefrom your system.
