Does anyone see how stupid these threads really are?
Why does everyone feel that everyone should be using the same cards. If you
like the TNT use it. If you like Voodoo2, use it.

Geez, move on already....

If only they would.  You should (well, shouldn't really) check out the video
ng.  This has been going on for years.  Some of these guys don't even seem to
come up for a breath of air, nevermind sunshine.  You'll see at least one guy
who makes >50 posts/day on video cards.  Hey guys, it's a means, not an end!

But that's exactly why people are discussing it here...because the end we
all want is the best performance and look to our favourite sim. and the
video card plays a big role in that.  I have a Millennium II and a Pure 3D
3dfx card--I am very interested in what my next card purchase should be...a
voodoo II or something like a TNT variant.  The posts here are informative.
I could care less what all the meaningless generic stats. from the
manufacturers say: how will they perform doing what I want them to do--of
which racing sims. is probably the most demanding task.

Marc.

There's no reason to get a V1 of any flavor, especially with V2 prices
falling the way they are.

Hear, Hear Marc!

I agree, you can NOT trust the recommended specs that game makers put on the
bottom of the box. Usually the recommended, is in fact the minimum
requirements in order to play the game with decent frame rate, options
turned on, etc...

While I'm disappointed that more racing sim makers don't support D3D, or
OpenGL (I've got a Riva128) I do enjoy reading what people who do have games
like GPL feel is the "true" recommend requirements to actually enjoy the
game.

BTW, on that topic, I've got a PII 266 w/64 meg SDRAM, and as I said a PCI
based Riva128 4meg 2d/3d video card.

Now that 3dfx prices have fallen, I'm considering getting a low end Voodoo
II or a high end Voodoo 1 (amount of RAM is what I mean by low and high
end).

I'd rather not spend more than $100, any recommendations????

Thank's!

The Creative 12 meg V2 is selling for 150 bucks now at the Best Buy
near me. Either spend the extra 50, or wait longer.
I wouldn't bother with a Voodoo1 at this point.
Buying a $100 card is false economy, IMO.
You'll be wanting something better in a couple of months.

For any UK people, in about 3 weeks, techworks will be selling a 12Mb Voodoo 2
SLI solution for 150 pounds. Cheap I know and even if you want one, find a
mate and it's still only 75 for a reference design 12Mb V2 board. BARGAIN

150 pounds!!!! Holly hot poop bat man! Thats expensive!! That's like $300 Canadian
(actually a bit more than that) dollars!! Holy... You can grab a 12megger for $150
(American dollars) which is about $230 Candian (and if you look around you can get
it for a bit less). Man, I feel real sorry for all the europeans. Having to pay
for local calls is bad enough, but those prices are crazy. With your strong
currency you should seriously look into buying over seas( via mail order of
course), even with shipping it'll probably be cheaper... just a thought.

Exactly. And how much do you pay for TWO V2s? 300$, which is ~150
pounds, IMHO (note: he wrote >>SLI<<, I also had to read it twice).

yup...at least cable modems are on the way...
At least in Austria I've seen Creative Labs Voodoo2 12 Meg for $150.

op! My bad!... oh well, just thought I should warn anybody who is going to pay 150
pounds for a single V2... maybe I'm dislexick (yup, I  can't read and I can't spell) or
something and I read 'single' instead of 'SLI'... oh well thanks for the correction...
