NFS vs Screamer

As most of you know, I'm an avid NFS fan...  I would like to get the
opinion of Screamer versus NFS.  How are the grapics?  640x480?  How
realistic is the car handling?  Should I plop down the $$$?  Will I be
disappointed as with Virtual Karts?

I was not very impressed w/the Demo

Thanks...Doug

Forget Screamer!  Wait for Whiplash  (www.interplay.com).
The demo is short but very cool.  You need a very fast pentium
as it must be run in SVGA mode for real enjoyment.

I've got NFS and it's great fun. It car handling is good.
I've also tried the Screamer demo and it wasn't good at all.

Whiplash- isn't that the one that advertises itself as having huge
jumps and loops? I'm a little foggy on which demo I played- I tried both
Screamer and Whiplash demos. Screamer's driving feel is... well, it's simple.
Sorta like the arcade Outrun, no finesse needed. Whiplash is a little better,
in that I could sorta sense the slides and correct or worsen them, but I don't
particularly like having to go EXACTLY 155mph off a jump in order to land the
car right-side up. Controlling your car in NFS is still way more fun and
challenging than in either of the demos I played.
Although.... it was kinda cool that you could drive the track
backwards in Whiplash. Wish I could do that in NFS.

Screamer is not even close to NFS in terms of realism or car handling,
it's very arcadish,  although it's graphics are great.   Not a game for
drivers.   I rented it and I'm glad I did,  it would have been a waste of
money to buy IMO.

Screamer is good for wasting a few moments racing when youre bored. KEyboard
control works great, unlike other racing games, so no need to whip out my T1
to race. Regarding handling, yes its very arcadish. But driving the rocket car
is something else. And its nice to be able to play with more than 2 people at
once (network only). Although its the least played netgame we have here. Too
busy with 'other' games. heheh.

After looking at their web page this looks like a game called Fatal Racing which was
released in the UK several months ago.

Unfortunately, it wasn't very good IMHO. NFS knocks spots off it.

Haven't played Screamer, but had a long converation in a computer
store the other day with a guy who's played all the arcade racers. He
said Screamer was a piece of junk compared to Need For Speed. Unlike
NFS, Screamer's cars all "feel" the same, tracks aren't as good, etc.
I'd still like to here other opinions, though - like yourself I'm a
junky for racing games, and I can't wait for GP 2! (Wasted $25 on Al
Unser racing yesterday - I'd skip this one too if I were you.)
