GPL Slo Mo almost eliminated by Thriller

GPL Slo Mo almost eliminated by Thriller

In case some of you missed my reply to my own post earlier, the Thriller 3D
8MB AGP I installed almost eliminates the GPL "treacle effect" that is very
apparent with my 12MB V2 card.  Any time there is a normal/expected slowdown
in the frame rate (with a full field at the starts and in and near the
pits), I get a slow mo effect in offline mode.  Leaving all other settings
identical, switching to the Rendition mode virtually eliminates the
problem...though it is still there to a small degree.  Anyone else have this
experience?  I just installed the Thriller yesterday, so this is news to me.
I thought the slow mo effect was related to Internet and FFB settings, not
acceleration mode.

Marc.

GPL Slo Mo almost eliminated by Thriller

Well, it must be some sort of timing problem (GPL thinks it is doing a
certain framerate while it is actually doing another), but without further
info from Papy we can only speculate about this. Apparently it depends very
much on your hardware. From what I can tell on my PII-333/128/V3 system, GPL
1.1 goes into slow or fast motion, depending on what framerate I have. (I
can actually measure this using an external stopwatch while driving. E.g.,
with FF enabled and a full AI field, a 1:41 lap in Monza actually took 2:16
in realtime. On the other hand, when disabling FF and driving in training
mode, I can easily gain 2 secs, i.e., realtime is faster than GPL time.) I
also thought at first that it was caused by using FF, but after doing some
experiments it seems that the (expected) dropdown of the framerate when
using FF just makes the effect more apparent ...

I tried all the various workarounds which have been suggested for this
problem, but nothing helped. If anybody out there has found another fix,
please let us know! Otherwise we'll just have to wait until the next patch
comes out, which might well take several months ...
