NASCAR 4 Damage bug?

NASCAR 4 Damage bug?

by Chris Bloo » Mon, 04 Jun 2001 16:38:38

Yesterday I ran a race at Dover with damage switched to none.  In practice I
had a shunt and managed to sustain body damage.  Thinking I had switched
damage on by mistake I also crashed heavily in qualifying and the race yet
sustained no damage and when I got back to the menu I did see that damage
was none.

Odd!

Yes, it's a bug. With Damage Off you can still sustain damage in practice,
or in qualifying- I think.

I  don't know about the practice session, but, with damage set to "off" you
can sustain damage in qualifying. It was part of the patch.

It's not a bug.  Since the patch, damage is always enabled in qualifing to
try to prevent "pinballing" around the track to get the pole.

That was changed to try and police wall riding during qualifying I
beleive.

And a  very sound decision in my view.
I stand/sit corrected.

Huh?  I thought they "fixed" the wallriding issue by having the car
deaccelerate on the straightaways if you tried accelerating while against
the wall.

Eric specifically said the issue is for drivers that "pinball" the walls,
which is different then wall riding.  You pinball the wall when you use it
to bounce your car in the turns, thus you only touch the wall a fraction of
a second.  Try it at Martinsville, like a cross-corner pool trick ;)
