Can you race on modem with one person having IRC and the other Cart Racing
both by Papyrus?Thanks!!

No, since both versions do not support 'net play (ie: TCP/IP - IPX/SPX).

But head to head play over the phone (no network required) could work,
or am I mistaken? Assuming, of course, that the original poster meant
*ICR2* and CART Racing.

If the "IRC" is a typo and should have been ICR2, the answer is yes.
But, you will want to make sure that the IndyCar Racing II has been
patched to the same level as CART (version 1.0.2).  I think you can find
out the version by pressing the J key while at the start-up screen.

I had misunderstood his post.  AFAIK, ICR2 and CR will connect
just fine.
