Electronic Arts Preparing NASCAR Revolution SE

When Electronic Arts' racing simulation NASCAR Revolution hit the
streets, it was anything but revolutionary. Plagued by sluggish frame
rates and doltish AI, it promptly became the target of scathing
criticism. Hoping fans will give them a second chance for a first
impression, EA is preparing NASCAR Revolution SE.

The Adrenaline Vault has learned this special edition will be the
patched version EA claims features superior gameplay.

(comment: LOL!!!)

The revamp will also feature Internet options that enable people to
match up with competitors from around the country. Lastly, it will
feature a CD called NASCAR 101 that contains a video tutorial
featuring real NASCAR crew chiefs and Benny Parsons. It will teach
people the meaning of racing terms, how to race certain courses,
how to configure a car and more. People wanting to drive the new
revolution will get a chance when it ships this fall.

LOL(again)! "Special Edition" in a situation like this simply means (at
least to me) that you buy the game (again) to get the patch that makes
the game what it was supposed to be in the first place.  But then again,
you probably have a better chance getting a date with (name your
favorite TV/Movie "babe") than getting a decent NASCAR sim in this case.

EA has used this approach with great success (for them) with the Need for
Speed series for years!!!  We'll see if NASCAR fans are as dumb as the
general public in paying twice for the same thing.  But then I own MGPRS2
and F1RS and Nascar Racing 1999 and Nascar 2, so what I am talking
about??????????  Given the history with NFS and what we read at Adrenaline,
I think Nascar Revulsion SE will be a much less substantial patch than
either MGPRS2 or NR1999.

Marc.

Actually this doesn't surprise me, and I was awaiting for such marketing
plot by EA Sports.  They WILL have to make competition to Sierra Sports for
Christmas.  They can't accept only 1 Nascar title on the American software
shelves for the biggest sales period of the year (N3).  Without time to
create a real title (but the same can be said by Papyrus), they revamp
Nrevolution.

People who already own NR don't have to pay for it again. They download a
free patch.

Since they're all "games" and since people discuss games in this group
(TOCA2, NFSIII, NFS:HS, etc.) what's wrong with discussing this game
(NASCAR Revolution), other than the fact you apparently hate it?

Bob,

You must understand this is not always a group of rational people
discussing simulations.  This is quite often a religious forum.
Anyone who is not bringing in an uncompromisingly accurate and
difficult to drive mathematical simulation is going to get ripped as
"arcade" and those that claim to like it will be told to take their
toys and go elsewhere.

Rec.autos.simulators has an elitist tone to it that is often
intolerant and ugly.  Unfortunate but true.  I do what I can to try to
balance the passions of a simhead (which I am) with the love of a good
game (which I often have, even for non-diehard-sims).

I think the religious fervor is exacerbated by the fact that so many
believe that only they know what separates a sim from an arcade game,
and when a company comes out and advertises their game as "realistic",
LOOK OUT!

I never said I hated it, after all it's the only NASCAR "game" I can "play"
with my FF wheel. It just isn't a "simulator", and really doesn't pretend to
be. Discussing it here is like discussing comic books on a literature group.
Not that I dislike comic books.

Actually the box reads: "AUTHENTIC RACING" and "The First Raceable
Simulation - It's only hard to drive well enough to WIN" and "FULL
SIMULATION DEPTH AND OPTIONS". Sounds like they want to be considered
a simulation.

It's not hard for most people to tell the difference between a comic
book and a novel. It's a lot harder to decide where to draw the line
between which games should be called "games" and which games should be
called "simulators".
