Help! For F1CS2K/Mac, you diehards...

Well, I hope you old-time diehards could help us Mac users out here...

As you might know F1 2000 CS is now out as one of the few race games on
the Mac (NR2002 pending).

The data files seem much the same, so it should be possible to use
several of the PC mods, cars, tracks etc.

However, support for this (older) game seem to have dwindled really fast
on the Net. (GPL is older and much better supported.) I've been able to
find three extra tracks so far (Sebring, Laguna and RAtlanta) and
Sebring does indeed work on the Mac, as do setups.

But that's about it.

I've Googled until my fingers bled, but countless dead links and
'missing files' for this game popped up everywhere. There are some
leftovers at bhmotorsports.com, but that's an exception. During my
search I read about several tracks and add-ons for this sim and I'd like
to try them and report to the Mac community what works; but the trick is
to find these files.

So, any tracks? Donington seems to have been out for this game, maybe
the Indy oval, there seems to have been a CART mod, a Trans-Am mod,
several extra cars, maybe a sports car mod, physics patches, etc...
Trick is, where? (Note: referring to a link is unneccessary since it's
likely stone cold dead, until you've actually been able to download it
there yourself in 2003... believe me, I've tried.)

Or, does anybody still have these files somewhere and is willing to make
them available again?

Regards, Ruud

If there had been a GPL CS,  A GPL 70's, and A GPL 80's then most
likely there would be very little support for GPL as well.  It's still got
an active user base because it hasn't been replaced.  F1 2k is greatly
inferior to F1 2k2 so there is little reason for that title to still have an
active user base.

 I've been able to

Most of the modding began with F1 2k1.  There was a CARt mod for 2k or
2kcs I think, but I don't remember too much more.

I know Dave, but don't forget at the moment it's kinda all we have...
There aren't any other real racing titles for the Mac at the moment.

That's why I'm trying my darndest to find every old track/patch/mod for
this oldie that's still out there. No answers so far though  8(

That's right, but it seems to have disappeared as well.. Nothing but
dead links everywhere.

C'mon guys, at least the good people who put so many hours in these
addons should have a copy somewhere?

Ruud,

I just got my copy of F1 2K CS Mac today. I've been following your
posts, and I'm not seeing much response yet. Maybe if other readers see
you are not the only one looking, they'll step up. OTOH putting the word
"Mac" in the subject line may be keeping others from even reading this
thread.

BTW is there a way to calibrate  in OS X? I've got a Logi Momo, the
slightly older red model. FF etc. seem to work fine. Is calibration even
necessary? TIA

Jim

Hi Jim, well, at least I am now able to give a tip for Mac users myself:
try googling for 'Hungarian Simworld' and look into their 'Archive'
section. Found several things there, including tracks -

try Mallory Park, I've managed to land some wins at 100% AI there using
the keyboard (all driving aids off, of course), it's a very easy track,
especially if you go for a high-grip setup.

Brake very late for the hairpin, just past the light asphalt patch, make
sure you're close behind during accelerating and then go flat-out
through the next left-hander, passing on the left (to make sure they
don't bump into you, reduce AI aggression to about 10%). At every other
circuit, fat chance of winning if you don't have a wheel, of course...

I've heard about Indy Oval being available for F1CS2000, but haven't
found it anywhere yet. Found Sebring, Mexico, Mallory to work though. If
the race is totally darkened after installing these, enter a short
Driving School session and then go back - this worked for me.

Does anyone know how to change the sky colours in SCGT/F12000 track
files, BTW? Mallory sky has a verrrry funny color here...

Good question. I'd say 'yes', but then I'm not in the luxurious position
of having a wheel for me Mac - me is stuck using old-fashioned keys for
now  ;)

I'll give this a try when I get back to my T1 line on Monday. Thanks for
passing on the fruit of your efforts.

I don't have the foggiest notion how you manage to drive with the
keyboard! And win!! Congrats

Some of us need more than a wheel to have a chance. ;-)

I found my replays are entirely two shades of black. Any idea what gives
there?

I haven't seen anything that talks about calibrating either at Feral or
at Apple. I'm sure there are places at Apple I haven't checked, though.
I'll try that next. Sounds like Apple or Feral will be adding support
for more wheels shortly.

The other problem I'm having right now is in the Driving School section.
At the beginning of my first trial on any of the tutorials, my wheel is
always turned one way or the other as soon as the computer relinquishes
control. So I always fail the first trial. Not a biggy, but then on the
next trial, if I don't touch the wheel, it's facing straight on the
screen, but the FF has tweaked it to the right or left in my hand so
that the wheel in my hand and the one on the screen aren't in sync. With
each subsequent trial, it gets tweaked a little more so that after
several trials, I've got to start the tutorial all over because the
wheel is so far out of alignment with the screen! I may send this one to
Feral, unless someone else has an idea. I'll let you know what I find.

Jim

Uh well, it's just that I don't have much choice  ;)  Luckily, these
modern F1 cars stick to the ground when compared to GPL - which helps  :)

Ummmm.. no... although it does sound like what I have sometimes, but
that came up ( I think) after installing these extra tracks. Anyway, all
I can offer is that going to the driving school (and then returning)
worked for me...

Oh, and I can report that the O-ring (old A1-ring), Estoril, Fiorano and
Sardian tracks work as well.. Assen doesn't, Zandvoort seems unavailable
(yet).  If you're having trouble keeping up, try Mallory, Sebring or
Road Atlanta - there you have a fighting chance even with the keyboard;
not too many narrow chicanes or overly long medium sweepers.

That doesn't sound right... Maybe Googling the newsgroups for
'calibrate' and 'F1CS2k' or 'F1CS2000' helps?

Otherwise, there's always the keyboard - at least there are some tracks
where it kinda works  ;)   The O-ring, Sardian, Mallory and Road Atlanta
are pretty frame-friendly too, should you have fps problems (like me - I
have to turn most eye candy off but these tracks seem a lot 'lighter',
especially the Osterreichring).
