F1CS2K, stuck in 5th gear, help

A friend of mine can't get his cars out of fifth gear no matter how he
configures it (keyboard, joystick, wheel) anyone come across this yet.  He
went as far as to reinstall W98SE and just his video card and nothing else.
Using keyboard only, he is still stuck in fifth gear.

AMD 800 T-Bird
Gigabyte MB AMD chip set
Microsoft keyboard
Hercules Prophet II MX 7.52 driver
DX 8.0a

  no but what controller is he using?  a wheel?  a joystick?

Just a suggestion.  Perhaps he needs to reconfigure his gears.  Have him try
various setups for gearing and see if he encounters the same problem.  If
the gearing ratios are wrong for 5th gear and above, he can get stuck in 5th
gear.

Check the "free shift" option in the controller menu, it's only for RS
Shiter from ACT LABS, it is labled rather vaguely.
