f1 2000 on pIII 800

by RD » Sat, 29 Apr 2000 04:00:00

Hello,

i am thinking of buying a PIII 800 or 850 with v3 card.
Can anyone tell me how F1 2000 runs on such a system ?

When you still dont get an optimal frame rate on a 1024x800 resultion,
i will rather wait for a faster processor

The only reason I want a new PC is because of the coming new racesims like
GP3 . So if 800 MHZ is not enough i will rather wait for a faster one.

Please, if anyone has a pIII 700 or higher and f1 2000, please inform me
about the
frame rates

Thanx in advance

If you are going to get a PIII 800, then wait a few weeks and get the
V5 5500.
You can alway get some fans etc and overclock your 800 if that is
lagging...

We can only hope that GP3 won't be such a system hog! As far as I'm
concered, F12k is poorly optimized and is not indicitave of how most
games run on a "high" end system. The good news is w/a P3800+V3, you
will max out GPL's and N3's framerates for the entire race :)

Btw, I would skip the V3 and wait for the V5 (late May) The FSAA feature
should considerably improve the looks of all racing games!
I can't wait ;)

V3-3500. Guess what? It's still a DOG in a full field race. Running by
myself it's quite smooth. IMHO it's the AI that wrecks this sim, the way
they drive and how they kill the frame rate.

Somebody had a patch for the AI that address the weaving that causes
wrecks.  Of course I didn't pay attention to whom...Blackhole
motorsports??  I'm really not sure..  That at least should improve the
AI driving somewhat...As to frame-rate, you'll probably have to bite the
bullet and turn off some features.

It runs choppy as hell with all graphics options on at res of 1024x and
above.  If you want to show a full field of cars you'll have to turn off all
the mirror details--if not completely turn off the mirrors, which are a
frame rate killer. Or you can drastically cut other options to compensate.
Either way, you're not going to be able to run with *everything* on.

Of course, if you want to run at 640x res . . .

This is on a Dell P3/800 Geforce 256 w/128megs RDRAM.

Not on my Athlon 750 V3 3000 system it doesn't!  1024 with 22 cars, mirrors
on, high texture, etc. I get 20-27 fps in a race!

Although this has been debated before, from the many posts I've seen, F12K
is not so happy with Geforce and TNT2 as it is with Voodoo3.

Yeah, probably so, because there are only  two things that I've thrown at
this system it hasn't eaten for breakfast--Ultima 9 and F12K.  It runs GPL
at 1600x res with full graphic detail during races at near 30fps, but I use
1280x to avoid almost any start of race slowdown.

I have a couple of V2s  in another machine that I've thought about putting
in this one, but probably won't because they benefit that machine more.

At any rate, I'm plenty happy with F12K on this machine at less than full
graphic detail.

even better if I turn off trees 1024x768 runs like a dream

now I just need a V5500 and a copy of GP3  :))

With my "poor" P3 450 - 128 RAM - and my very poor ATI 16 mo,
the game works perfectly at 1024 X 768 with all the options on but
the mirrors.
What are the problems ?

As has been discussed many times previously here, some people seem to have
problems, and others don't!  The reasons are not obvious yet.
