My system is several computers connected to an SMC Barricade
router/firewall which which is connected to my cable modem. The
Barricade is performing NAT.
For those unfamiliar with network features, NAT is Network
Address Translation. This allows my different computers on my
LAN to use a single address when communicating on the internet.
A friend has his hot Athlon system connected through a Win ME
box that's running the MS Internet Sharing. Presumably, this
configuration is also running NAT.
I can find the address that my ISP's DHCP has assigned to me,
but I don't know what I need to tell my router about directing a
message it receives from a remote machine, with my assigned address
and the port number NFS want's to use, to the port on my machine
that my copy of NFS wants to use when hosting. I also don't know
if I'm going to have to tell my firewall to admit messages it is
now filtering.
I'm not expecting an SMC Barricade expert to tell me what I
need to type, but if I can understand what the issues are, and
the approach to resolve these issues, I think I can figure it
out.
My friend is also unable to log into internet games. The
NFS servers tell him his user number and password is invalid.
EA emailed him his user name and password, and he forwarded
them to me. We understand the case sensitive nature of the
data, but both of us get the same error when trying to log on
with his information. He registered last night, and now,
the next day, the problem persists.
I'm able to connect to EAracing for online racing with my
account info.
Thanks
Larry
