GOD NO !! don't tell GPL won't work with TNT

by Paul » Sun, 09 May 1999 04:00:00

I have upgraded my machine a while ago to a TNT card and 128 meg ram. To my
horror I can not get the TNT to work with GPL where with the Voodoo 2 it was
fine. The machine has just had a fresh win98 install and the lastest drivers
from the card manufactar.

PLEASE HELP !! as GPL is a game I just can not do without :)

Look at www.papy.com, there is a patch which works ok.

Remember to read the readme.txt file and set mirror refres to once every 4
th frame.

The OpenGL rasterizer (available from www.papy.com) will run GPL at up
to 1600x1200 on the TNT, there's no need for a Glide wrapper.

Difficult to see how you maintain that point of view...

I have a TNT & V2 in the same PII 450 and can safely say the TNT at 1024 x
768 using Open GL (not D3D) craps all over the V2 800 x 600 graphics IN
GAME - not just for one off screen shots.

You may be right.  I am basing my opinion on a screen shot I have seen of a
glide wrapper.  I am curious how you got your TNT to run GPL at 1024x768

I would like to see it for myself.

I'm  using the beta opengl driver from www.papy.com ever since I sold my
voodoo1 card and it's been working great for months now.  I usually run
1024x768 off-line and 800x600 online.

(I have the creative tnt blaster oem card.. not sure if that makes a
difference)

I think it does make a difference, I have a Diamond V550, and I cannot
disable mip mapping. What ever that is, it causes a lot of problems.

WARNING! WARNING!. Don't dare pick on Voodoo cards in this forum. There are
people here who regard 3dfx as some type of God that produces only the best. The
fact that you, like me, have both cards doesn't mean you know what you are
talking about!

Mark,

Thanks for the warning but coming from Yorkshire I have a tendency to tell
it like it is. Personally, I actually think a great deal of 3dfx myself -
for instance I'm glad I retained the Voodoo2 as despite what nVidia might
have us believe their drivers are not as widely compatible as those from
3dfx (anyone who's tried MotoRacer2 on both setups will know what I mean).
But where the TNT works it is usually my card of preference.
