GPL---how do you go FAST??

I'm driving at ***bath in the Lotus.

I have the tires hard, no toe in, stiff springs, the fastest gear
there is, car as low as it goes, etc.

Halfway down the front stretch, I'm maxxed out doing about 197, and I
get blown away by a Coventry doing 220!

What am I missing?

He probably was using the engine swapper and had put a Honda (Murasama)
engine in his Cooper (Coventry). That, and he probably got a decent
slingshot draft off you (or somebody) earlier.

The engine swapper is a little utility that allows you to swap engines
between cars. Subject of much arguing in this newsgroup when it was
released. I'd give you a link but I've never used it (I'm too pure <g>).

Somewhere I recall reading that the AI cars are allowed to go faster in
the straights.  They are not run through the physics engine, and so in
order to allow you to draft the AI at a realistic speed they are
artificially given more speed in the straights than would be possible
alone.

I get the Lotus up to about 199 at Spa just before Masta on the first lap
of a long race with full fuel and easy race setup.

Have you done something as simple as check your controler
calibration/output  to make sure you're getting full range of values?
