ICR2 - Absolutely brilliant - but......

by Graeme Weston-Lewi » Fri, 17 Nov 1995 04:00:00

I have to admit that ICR2 has THE BEST, smoothest, most detailed etc, etc,
graphics of any game I have played so far. I have only played with the
keyboard so far, so I can't comment on the 'feel' of the game yet. But
(there's allways a but isn't there) why do my front wheels allways appear
to be going backwards ?
This is especially obvious if you turn off the Goodyear logo on the side
of the tyre.

Ok here goes, I'm sticking my head above the wall so you can all shoot at
it.

Why oh why do we need the stoopid tyres anyway ? The look is all wrong
from inside the***pit (the Goodyear sign is a nice touch though).

Fire away....

P.S. - I'll be buying the game as soon as I can find it so I will learn to
live with the tyres.

I agree...they look great, and that's gotta be how it would
really look.  Also, they way they have the logo spin and blur is
fantastic!

certainly is a matter of taste. I like the tires, makes me feel i'm sitting
down in the car with my ***about three inches above the tarmac! BTW looking
at the screen shots of gpII gives me the impression you can see something
at the edge of the screen - maybe the brake housings?

now bring back the moving view as per Ferrari Formula One so we can look
into the corners :-)

Well, Graeme. Look at the tires of any real car when it drives
slowly, you'll notice that the wheels appear to be going backwards,
but do they? Find out, Graeme! :)

The effect can be compared to resonance, but it is your eyes that
can't keep up with the speed of rotation.

You are welcome to your opinion.  But I like the tires there cuz it
helps me drive the fine line in the corners.  Also the tires are the
width of the car.  It would make it extremely difficult to have the
close side by side racing I've enjoyed in the demo without them.
Besides they seem to scare away some of the AI drivers.  Try moving your
front tires up near the side of a car as you dive for the corner and
don't be surprised if they back off...

For me it is more a matter of driving aid. If you want to drive a perfect
path in a curve you MUST see the wheel just touching the white line. Also
on urban circuits it is quite useful to see the wheels brush against the
walls (with DAMAGE ON of course)... Without seeing the wheels I think I
would drive more conservative ?
