help needed GPL crashes

by Graham.Hea.. » Mon, 04 Jun 2001 18:46:56

Help, I recently started running GPL again, but it crashes when I try to
start a single (player) race.

I can run fine in practice but when I try to start a single-race it
hangs whilst drawing the cars in pit-lane.

I have managed to run one race with 5 opponents but after I tried to
increase the number of opponents it started crashing and now it won't
run even with 5.

I have a PIII 800 mhz with 128MB and a Voodoo 5500.  I use a Logitech GP
FF.  I am running the UK version of the game with patch 1.2 that is
1.2.0.1 and Directx 7.0

I am also using a nocd patch.  I need the nocd patch because the cd copy
protection won't run on my cd-player (Yamaha cdr).  For the same reason
it wouldnt run with the new cpufix patch.

I can get a race to start in software mode.  I have tried removing
absolutely all details but it still crashes as it draws the cars in Pit
lane

I have also tried a complete reinstall to new directory from the
(original) cd.

Anyone have any ideas?

regards
Graham

If you are using FSAA, try with it off.  If it works, get the newer
drivers, 1.04.00 or 01 from 3dfx.com

I agree, the first drivers that were released for the V5 had a problem
with 2xfsaa and GPL.  That was fixed in later versions...any 3dfx driver
from November of 2000 on should be ok.
