Pod MMX->3Dfx upgrade help!

by Matt Bianchett » Tue, 27 Jan 1998 04:00:00

Hello-

I wanted to update my Pod MMX OEM 1.0 to take advantage of my 3dfx
voodoo card. First I installed the MMX 2.0 upgrade and the game ran fine
with the patch installed. I then proceded to install the 3dfx mmx
upgrade from the file named "updatePOD21_3dfx.exe". The patch installed
sucessfully, but now I can't run the game! The desktop and start menu
shortcuts, when clicked, say " 'exe' file not found" in an error box.
When I go to the C:\Windows\UbiSoft directory and execute UBISETUP.EXE,
I get the error "Script not loaded! Could not open the file
C:\WINDOWS\UBISOFT\InstData\ubi.ins". Needless to say, this directory is
not present. When I run d:\UbiSoft\Pod\PODMMX.exe, I can play MMX 2.0
version just fine. Would the game being on the D: drive***things up,
or is it probably something else?

Thanks for your help,

Matt

I did exactly the same as you (I have a Viper 330) and I click on the
podd3dx icon in my Pod dir which is on my D drive.  If you haven't got
this icon, try reinstalling.  There is mention of the desktop and start
menu icons being screwed up in the new readme.

Good luck,

Wolf

I have never updated pod to 3dfx... but...  did you check if
there is a new .exe in the pod directory?  Most updates leave
you with your old version and the new one.

It also looks like their update program didn't clean up
the previous install... you can go into start/settings/taskbar/
start menu programs/advanced to clean up for them...

How is it that you get a 3Dfx game working with a non 3Dfx card?
