Hi George and welcome to RAS (Rec.Autos.Simulators)

N2 is Nascar 2 and GP2 is Grand Prix 2.

You will also see ICR2 which stands for Indy Car Racing II.

Hope this helps.

N2 = Nascar Racing II by Papyrus (oops, Sierra)
GP2 = Grand Prix II by Microprose

In case you were wondering, ICR 2 = Indycar Racing II also by Papy..
Sierra. Also mentioned around here (sometimes) are DD (Destruction
Derby) and NFS (Need for Speed), to name a few, although the last two
are not really "simulators" per se.  Others may disagree.

Hi.

I am new into driving simulators.
Could somebody tell me what N2 and GP 2 are.
Full name versions so I can ask for them by
name at the software store.

Thanks

Was it just general concensus that elided N2 to Nascar Racing 2 rather
than NCR2, the style we use for Indycar Racing 2 (ICR2)?

Just curious as I'm used to typing NCR2 myself!

I was using NR2, but I think the lazy fingers won out and N2 came out on
top in the end.

I had originally put NR2 (Nascar Racing 2) in the FAQ, but was informed
that N2 had won out.

I really don't know!! The day Nascar 2 came out, I installed it on my
computer, and updated my dos menu to include it, and gave the .bat file
the name N2.bat.  I don't know why, since Indycar Racing 2 is IC2, and
the original nascar was NC.  I guess it just meant one fewer key to
press when I wanted to race!! Incidentally, for those times that I want
to see the introductory movie, which is once in a while, I made another
batch file called N2i.bat.

It finally came to me (after reading someone else's post).  The
abbreviations for games usually comes from the command line "name" to
start the game/sim.  N2.BAT is the default means of starting NASCAR
Racing 2.  Grand Prix II is GP2.EXE.  ICR2 came about because they tend
to capitalize the C in IndyCar.  NCR2 doesn't really work because Nascar
is really NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Automobile Racing).

Sounds reasonable to me!

I had a batch file style alias for ICR2 so I just typed I2 for that
one. But that's because I'm lazy really (".." to change a directory
upwards at a command line for instance!).
