Looking for a league...

by Trip » Wed, 21 Apr 1999 04:00:00

I'm hoping to find an online GPL league that races the Novice Trainers.
If anyone knows of such a league, I'd be grateful to hear about it.

I've been racing in the Club Sport (Novice Trainers) division of the
V.I.R.C. league for several months, but the future of that league is
currently in doubt.

I'm not terribly interested in racing the GP cars online, I feel that
the lower powered trainers make for closer more competitive races.

Thanks in advance,

Trips

If you find one please let me know Trips. I haven't tried the trainers
as I used the AI Tweaker to slow the AI and used the GP cars (at a
slower pace) to train from day one. I'm not extremely competitive
online ( 3:30 at Spa, 1:08 at the Glen, etc.) so maybe this would be a
fun place to race. I can host around 10 players (Cable modem) and we
*could* set up races via ICQ if all have it. I also use Battle Comms,
currently in free beta ( www.shadowfactor.com ) for voice
communication. I do have a second P450 on my network at home that
could act as a dedicated server (cable, separate IP) if thats possible
to do in GPL.

I'm actually working on just such a project :-)

The web site is a skeleton at the moment and dates are yet to be announced
but feel free to have a look.

A bunch of buddies are doing test races at the moment. Mail me if you fancy
joining in.

I can tell you now that racing the basic trainers is a scream. Of course,
the speeds are slower and testing is a bit boring as a result but
online.......
I went into Eau Rouge at Spa and all the way up the hill side by side with
another driver in one race. Neither one of us was giving or taking an inch.
This would be impossible in F1 cars. The ability to run off the line at such
places will ensure epic races in due course :-)

Looking for a league...

Hi Mark, glad to see you finally getting into this style of racing.
I thought you may have been interested the other day when you joined my
practice session for F3's at Monza..  <G>
We, in the GMSS have run the F3 cars ever since GPL was released and
you are dead right about the closensess of competition in this catagory
of racing..
Our typical grid spacings are usually no more than 2 seconds from pole
to last position on the grids, sometimes a lot closer.
The time our members have spent in setup, fine tuning for that extra
100th of a second would have to be seen to be believed.
I myself recently spent about 3 hours testing at Monza, just to get
that 1 extra mph out of my F3, without losing the grip to speed ratio.
Damm, this is great fun..   Welcome aboard.  :)
It's good to see a bit of interest in the F3/F2 cars, as the racing is
far superior to the crash and bash adventures of the F1's..
I wish you luck with your new league you are forming.
If you feel like testing your mettle in these monsters, drop me a line
sometime and we will take these killers to the tracks...
See you in a F3 somewhere ..  :)
Cheers from Downunder,
Ron

I can testify that Ron   DID find the extra MPH,  but I got 2nd <G>

Ron is right on the F3 and F2 cars provide MUCH better racing for 95% of us
mere mortals with real world internet connections than does F1
