I am looking to start a League over Kali servers. It would be simular to
modem racing leagues but free (atleasst no long distance bill). Please
E-mail me if interested.

I've have many good races over the net, some with one of us serving and
most through a kali server. Ping times of 100-300 ms are great, 300-600 ms
are OK if you can live with minor jumping ( and many of these races don't
jump). Certainly a fast server and low ping times help. Just as important
is a fast PC and video card. Set detail levels to auto so your machine
doesn't cause lost packets.
p.s. I don't know why but I admit some I've tried to get setup to race
through the net have problems. One thing for certain if you can't drive
well against AI cars don't even think about racing with Hawaii.

I guess some dreams can be reality.
My Kali experiences have been favorable with a 28.8 modem to a typical
local internet provider. For Degaheads it may not be the best alternative,
as it works better on short tracks where the distance travelled per second
is less. Latency is an issue, but as my newfound friends on Kali St. Louis
will attest (hi, Mike_LSU), it is quite playable if the "ping" to your
opponent is less than 500 milliseconds (a latency of .25 seconds). If it
gets over 500, the "bouncing" occurs. My random disconnects from
experienced Kali opponents have been few.
If you are skeptical, I suggest you try it. The downloadable evaluation
version of Kali which allows you to connect for 15 minutes is free. The
$20 one-time registration for Kali has been well worth it to me. This is
not a replacement for Hawaii and it is not perfect. But it does offer
head-to-head modem racers a much greater number of potential opponents.
Oh yes, I am interested in a Kali league.
