F1RS Question

I must have been living in a cave these past months, but what is F1RS
and who makes it?  Is it's realism of the same caliber as Nascar
Racing?  What kind of machine is required to run it well?

F1 RS stands for Formula 1 Racing Simulation. It is made by Ubisoft. Depending
on your settings it is an arcade racer or a top realistic sim. Even real F1
drivers have to practice driving with this sim in the top realistic mode,
unlike other F1 sims, so it's certainly of the same caliber! Maybe it's
better, because for instance the AI in Nascar is very different on each track
and starts are very easy (starting at nr. 21 and completing the first lap as
nr. 3 (at 100% level) isn't very realistic, is it?). But it's hard to compare
it with Nascar: I play them both (Nascar 2 and F1 RS) but they are totally
different (just as in real life!). If your interested in F1 you should get F1
RS. It's got the best F1 PC graphics and F1 PC gameplay. You got to have a
P166 at minimum. I have a P200 MMX and a Voodoo 1 3Dfx card (Righeteous 3D)
and it's absolutely great looking and incredibly smooth! It clearly (and
obviously) beats Nascar 2 in that department. But as I said, F1 and Nascar
can't be compared, and at this moment the only game I play is Nascar 2 with
the 3Dfx patch so...

Hope this answered your question.

Thanks Jeroen, yes that helps.  I am going to try the demo and see if
my lowly computer will run it well.  I love F1 and would like to have
a sim that does it justice.

F1RS stands for "Formula one racing Simulation" which is made by
Ubisoft, and is generally accepted as *THE* F1 racing sim at the
moment, yes, even better than GP2?

It's realism is very good, it is based on the 1996 season, and has
all the drivers, teams, cars and circuits from that year. Ubisoft
have released several patches for the sim since it was released, the
latest was released a few days ago and is v1.08.

The box says you will need a p120 minimum with 16Mb ram and a 4Mb
graphics card which can handle Direct3D, to run f1rs. However, as
ever, the faster your machine is the better the game will play.
I have a K6 200 (Clocked to 225) with 64Mb SDram, a 4Mb Mystique, and
a 3Dfx card, and f1rs flies along nicely.
You really should consider getting a 3dfx card if you haven't already
got one, as this improves the graphics somewhat.
