OT: track differences

I watched part of the Grand AM sportscar race at ***ia Int. Raceway
(VIR) and was taken by the extreme difference between that track and modern
F1 tracks.  Compared to VIR, the newest tracks like Shanghai, Malaysia etc
are wide and glasstop smooth.
I was always attracted to BTCC telecasts, probably because the cars MOVED
so much during the race.  VIR brought out that same look..The Modern GP
track especially when a DTM race is run is sooooo bland...it's not the
racer's fault...it's the track...it just doesn't show off the car's speed
like bumpier tracks do.
Now my mind KNOWS that the F1/DTM cars are moving at incredible speeds,
but the Super Touring cars at the smaller Brit tracks or American
Sportscars on tracks like VIR just 'look' like they are moving at faster
speeds.  My mind can't overcome what my eye isn't showing.(the DTM cars at
Nurburgring GP track for example)
The superstiff F1 suspensions don't help, but I wonder if we could find
some way of having fast F1 cars but make them move...make them alive.

you should see the BTCC races at knockhill and brands hatch, edge of your
seat stuff. too many new circuits are completely flat and featureless. we
should have more spa`s,bathurst`s and phillip islands. ever tried oran park
for nr2k3? fantastic, lots of bumps and hills, just like brands.

Dave

I know exactly what you are saying.  I am salavating at the thoughts of
being planted infront of the tube this weekend watching V8 Supercars bounce
and sway around Bathurst for 1000 km (plus all the qualifying and practice).
Nothing smooth about the trip up and down the mountain.  Cars with plenty of
attitude as well - yehaah!!!!
