I am about to purchase a linksys 4 port router to connect two pc's.  Was
wondering if anyone has this with a cable modem.  How is the performance in
online racing and can you race head to head with Nascar 4, my kid is dying
to tear me up.

Harry,
I have a linksys cable modem router for my home phone line network and it works
wonderfully.  It works great for both online and network play for all games,
especially N4.  And my 13 year old son tears me up too !

He will need his own N4 CD to go online however, and you won;t be able to go to
the same server without doing an advanced configuration for your pc IP address
.  I also haven't hosted a race yet because I don;t want to do the port set up
or DMZ one of my network pcs.

I love my linksys router .

I was concerned that I might need to buy two type of cables
but at least with my modem, I was able to use patch cables throughout.

I have this dsl/cable route on my DSL line and it solved all my problems and
was a breeze to setup. U set it up using your browser. You enter a specific
IP address and it will pull up the setupscreen off the router.
If you didnt want to buy a router, you could buy SYGATE (www.sygate.com)
and hook up several computers using only 1 ip address. It works flawlessly
but the only draw back is that it goes thru 1 main computer and if that
system goes down, all your computers loose access to internet.
