What F1 sim game do you think Montoya uses?

What? Where did you read this? He had a reasonable good season last
year, if his car wouldn't have broken down so often..
In his first year(s) Jos had to learn a lot, and I don't think he's as
naturally talented as Schumi or Montoya is, but he sure is an
excellent driver with a great fighting spirit, and he excels in starts
and driving in the rain. I can't imagine Arrows would have even
considered replacing Jos this season..

No, ofcourse not. Somehow I think Dave is not being serious here and
is having a big laugh at our reactions :)
Dave, if you are being serious.. get help :))

Right, the more teams having a chance of winning, the better.
Seeing a Williams back at the lead was fantastic.
How I wish Montoya would have won the race :(

snip snip *lots of paranoia removed*

Hi all.

I've got a rule in life that I respect opinions and don't flame on
usenet, and, even after reading a ton of statements in different ng's,
I've been able to supress the urge to grab the keyboard and bash away.

However, *dave henrie*, I hope you don't mind me adding my opinion to
this lot.

This is the second thread (that i've noticed) in which you mentioned
this theory of yours.  I managed to resist the temptation the first
time I read it, but after watching this thread for a day or two, I
find I have to say something..

I believe you theory is a load of crap.  Purely my opinion, of course,
like it or leave, its mine.  I disagree with your paranoid view of the
world and I don't think your view has any merit.  In fact, I believe
there is more truth in Aliens/ UFOs/ Government *** theories
than in your theory.  Please don't take this personally as, besides
this issue, I have enjoyed and agreed with many other posts you and
others have made in this group.

Yes, the stakes are high.  Yes, the money floating around is
astronomical.  But I firmly believe that the driver's ego is even
bigger.   Montoya wants to be number 1, Montoya wants to show Schumey
and the world how fast he is.  Good luck to him.  As for Verstappen,
he has more to lose in terms of PERSONAL prestige than anything else
and seriously doubt he would risk losing his job (due to perceived
incompetence) in order to make a point to a newcomer to the sport.
Again, maybe I am naiive and believe in the tooth fairy or whatever,
but I do believe it was a simple racing accident, no matter how
unfortunate.

Don't get me started on the Ford / Jaguar / BMW thing...

I hope that Montoya does do well and win and, if possible, avoid
future controversy along the way.  I am a Schumey fan myself, but I
would be happy to see Montoya finish on or near the top of the
championship podium just to have your theory disproved.

By the way, being the son of a famous, loved, respected and admired
driver did nothing for Michael Andretti, so using that for Jacques is
not really much of argument.  If Mario had to die and Michael made a
comeback to F1, do you expect him to do well and have the drivers
accept him openly?  Oh man, I just thought of Damon Hill.  mmm.  Won't
go there.  Didn't the son of Jackie Stewart(Paul) and Jack Brabham
race as well?  Were they also punted out of Formula One?  Can't
recall.  Mmm.

Michael was slower than Ayrton Senna, full-stop.  Maclaren didn't have
their best car that year and the difference betwen Senna and Michael
was probably the factor that led to Michael not being competitive.  As
others have said.  It can't be easy to be a team-mate of a Senna,
Schumacher, Lauda or even Prost.

Sorry Dave,  I can't say I agree with you.   Maybe we should compare
notes later in the season.

In the case of Zanardi ...*snip*

I've calmed down now and I feel better.

Glad I could express my opinion, feel free to crititise it.  I don't
mind.

regards,
ian

para-what???  heheh..

I'm not offended...I am amused and have 'possibly' taken this thread
down the road to ridiculous :)  <but I could be mistaken>  :)
A tracing of the gas pedal telemetry will tell all.  I would suspect the
line would
show Jos had his foot buried right up and over the Williams.  However a
telemetry
reading won't show the though process that went along with it...
I agree that if the Williams team can start finishing races, they will
rise
fairly high in the points ladders.

ahhhhh..  I thought of this one too.  Mario is one of America's most well
known and respected drivers.  But I think in F1 circles, even tho he is a
World
Champion, he is not held with such high esteem.  His championship was
tarnished
by the death of his teammate, Ronnie Peterson, who many believe was under
team
orders NOT to pass Mario.  I just don't think the Andretti name is revered
as much
as Villenueve(I've most likely botched the spelling of that each
post...someday I must
learn the proper spelling) in F1 circles.  Plus Mikey had a very ferocious
driving style,
much like Schumi.  In CART, the mere appearance of that white-nosed lola in
another
driver's mirrors was enough to get them to move over and let the guy by.
But in
F1, I think he was expecting those drivers to make way as well...of course
that didn't
happen...at least not with Karl Wedlinger.

strip away all my ramblings, all my Xfileishness(new word!) and we may
still come to different conclusions...
  I miss the donuts.. :)
glad I could help!  :)

Guessing?  Surely not.  Up until now I had thought you were basing
everything you had stated on concrete facts. :)

Not sure exactly where JPM finished last year, so who am I to speak, but
from what I saw of CART - which ain't much here in the UK - a lot of
this was down to many more mechanical problems than in the previous
year.  If he had had the reliability of the previous year then no doubt
he would have been in with a chance of winning the championship - you do
know he won the CART championship first time out - once again.

This guy is talented of which I'm sure JV is patently aware.  Being a
racing driver I doubt JV's knowledge of motor racing is blinkered to
just that of F1 and he knew about JPM's pedigree more than you appear
to.

C'mon,  you know me...I'd never confuse an issue by using FACTS!
I was just too lazy to dig up last year's standings...Yes JPM had
reliability
problems with his team's switch from Honda to Toyota.  He did manage to
win in CART and he did manage to win an event that USED to be the most
famous motor race in the world.
Here are the results from last year...of note....JPM finished just ahead
of the
2001(predicition!!!dingdingding!) champion...
rank, name, total points, road pts., oval pts.
1 Gil de Ferran 168 99 69
2 Adrian Fernandez 158 89 69
3 Roberto Moreno 147 61 86
4 Kenny Brack (R) 135 81 54
5 Paul Tracy 134 88 46
6 Jimmy Vasser 131 86 45
7 Helio Castroneves 129 110 19
8 Michael Andretti 127 50 77
9 Juan Montoya 126 35 91
10 Cristiano da Matta 112 55 57

I'm well aware of JPM's background...well at least as it concerns the
US...I did manage to see maybe 10 minutes of F3k highlights during the
season he won...about the same for Nick Heidlfield the next year...over
here in the States...we JUST can't get good coverage of too many series,
and I can't afford Autosport Magazine.
So it's even worse than I thought...a 9th place Champ car driver
LAPS poor Jos...what other reason do we need ???
Actually if you want facts...we would need to see the practice sessions
AND qualifying to know if JOS was ever behind either Williams at all
on the straight...For sure the Williams was a MUCH faster car on the
main straight and that would logically mean both Williams drivers would
have to brake sooner than other drivers.  Plus...JPM most likely got
a tow from the Arrows BEFORE Jos pulled over and he was going
that much faster.  So Montoya...that scrappy 9th place former Champ
car driver...:) , would actually have had to brake much sooner to slow
down for the first turn.  Given that..JOS should never have tucked in so
tight...he was well clear of the other car he was racing for posisiton and
in no real danger of losing the spot...
I'll turn off all my X Files reasoning and call it Brain Fade.

What?  You're actually going to admit you may be wrong?  Surely after
all the time and effort that you have put into this I would have thought
you could have at least done a DGF and stuck to your guns no matter how
ludicrous it now all appears. ;-)

  Nono...didn't admit I was wrong...that wouldn't be prudent...just attacked
in a
different direction.  :)  Jos was still at fault....just didn't use all my
powers of
*** to back it up....;)

Yeah, but it was a good attempt though.  You 'almost' had me convinced.
If only you hadn't made that Montoya CART 7th slip. :)
