I just thought I'd pose this question. I am very much a fan of CMR
and can't wait for CMR2. I found that with a little practice and stage
knowledge I could achieve times well within the top 10s posted on
the various hot lap pages.
Now I've not had RM long and in truth did buy it more as a stopgap
until CMR2 and never thought it would be on a par with the CMR
from a physics/simulation point of view, although it is obviously
better graphically.
I do enjoy the race gameplay which is fun but in trying to do hotlaps
I'm finding I'm having to compensate much more for the quirks of the
cars and courses than actual out and out technique.
I have posted some good times for Sweden and USA which I feel
do have less quirks (particularly Sweden) than the other courses.
I've so far found it very difficult to noitice too much difference
between any of the cars (certainly there seems very little performance
difference). Also, with the setups, I still havent figured out what is
best for what conditions, they seems to make very little difference
although I havent tried Tarmac tyres on Snow etc.
Theres already been much comment about the use of walls and
barriers on the dedicated RM boards, I echo this (essentially they
are saying that in order to acheive v.fast time, at some stages, you
need to crash-bang-wallaop into the walls/barriers.
Certainly it seems that to do a good lap on many stage you need
to be fortunate. You do need some skill in order to be there and
there abouts but so often a really tidy laps is ruined by a little
quirk.
I tried to decide whether it was just more challenging than CMR,
hence my frustration, but I'm not so sure. I think there is just
something there that I can't put my finger on.
It is a great game and lots of fun but very frustrating I feel for
hot-lappers.
I'm particularly interested in what experienced CMR players
think of the game, particlar in relation to my comments above.
