ICR still Inconsistent!! Help!

by a.fernand » Sat, 12 Nov 1994 01:31:27

I've tried just about everything. About mid to 3/4 of the race,
my acceleration and top speed drop very dramatically. At first, I
noticed it at Toronto, and now at Mid-Ohio. At Mid-Ohio, I can
easily reach 162mph on the long straight with a full tank. Towards
the end of the race, I can only reach about 153mph. My acceleration
also stinks. At the beginning of the race, I can easily brake the
back tires loose. But towards the end of the race, my acceleration
out of 1st gear is almost like the second gear.

At first, I thought running it off a clean boot up disk would fix
the problem. It seemed like it did. I went and changed to a different
car set a couple of days ago and the problem cropped up again. I'm
thinking that the problem lies in the car set. But just in case it
doesn't, can someone email a copy of their autoexec.bat and config.sys
files so that I can compare them abd try a few things?

Any help appreciated.

I don't think your problems are in the conf/auto.  I think
something is changing on/in your system.  If you can start and
run normally for some time, THEN you loose speed, something has
changed.

I've not experienced anyproblems with ANY of the many car sets I
run....don't think it's there unless you have a corrupted one.
Try another one, or reload....you have tried reloading the game
haven't you?

This might be due to thermal displacement of your game board.  I have found
that I can't use reverse if I calibrate with the system freshly turned on,
because the calibration of the joystick ports shifts.  It had me mystified
until I opened the box and noticed that the sound board (which has the joystick
ports, of course) is physically sitting right above my processor, which of course
is the warmest thing in the box...

I'm going to move my board to another slot which isn't close to the cpu,
but for now I am just recalibrating right before a race.  You can even
recalibrate DURING a race by hitting ESC and then ALT-j (shift-j?).
