Help! ICR is INCONSISTENT!

I don't know if this is the same for all tracks. But when I usually
go into Toronto, my setup that I usually use makes 162 mph top speed
on the longest straight. But sometimes, when I'm switching between
different setups, my top speed and acceleration decreases substantially
in my original setup and then the rest of them as well.
I get frustrated when I go to race and qualify 5th or 6th and then
as the race goes on, the same thing happens. My top speed and acceleration
is decreased. Then the WHOLE field catches up with me and I fall behind
the leaders by 2 or 3 seconds a lap. I've gotten to the point where if
anybody tries to pass, I slam them into the wall. Heck, last night towards
the end of the race in Toronto as I was about to be drafted by Mansell (F1
car set) I slammed on the brakes and caused a nice pile up on the long
straight. hehehehe :^)

Anyway, does anybody know what causes this? Can I fix it by modifying
the drivers.txt file? I have already made my min and max hp, 998/999
respectively but still the problem exist.

Are you saving your set-ups each time you exit from one and go
on to a new one?  If so, you are saving the wear and tear on
the car in the set-up ... particularly the tire wear!  As for
the race ... it could be that your competition is making in car
adjustments ... changing boost ... etc.  Are you doing the same?

Just a possibility?

In addition to the idea that you may be saving tire/engine wear with your
settings that someone else mentioned, I have another theory (albiet a weak
one):

In real life weather conditions can substantially effect car performance.
They run slower when its hotter, faster when its cooler.  Could that have
been factored into the game? Maybe it was really windy?

Just a thought.

998/999 hp?   Try driving fairly, with the rest of us.

It wasn't that I was saving a worn-out set-up; I never saved them, but
just reloaded them. It also isn't the weather; since the weather is always
set to be constant. It all started when I used the CARS94x set-up off
AOL and a set-up that I DL'ed from the Papyrus BBS. I'm going to try
it again (race that is), but this time with only 2 competing cars to
see if this is somekind of memory problem. I have 8-MEG so I don't think
it's this. But I think I started the game after exiting out of Windows,
and possibly Windows didn't free up some of the resources.

Any more Suggestions are welcome.

I just purchased ICR.  It is the original 1.0 version.  Has there been any
updates since the game came out.  eg. Driver updates for this season,
Bug fixes, etc...

If so,  where can I get these files/patches ?

Thank you,

  Stuart
