Mad Catz Wheel? How is it?

Does anyone out there know how the Mad Catz steering wheel compares with
other wheels in terms of durability, accuracy, support and ergonomics?
If I go out and buy this tommorow, will I regret it?

I bought the Mad Catz steering wheel last weekend. I don't know how it
compares to the other wheels, but I think it's good value for money (in
Holland 199 guilders = 125 US dollars).
Durability seems good to me. I drove almost the whole sunday (except during
the Estoril-race) and it still works fine.
Accuracy is also good.
Support is no problem. Just change control-method to joystick and drive on!
Ergonomics: nice little (18 cm) steering wheel that feels very good and
realistic. Pedals are not to small and not to close to each other.

Resuming: You won't regret it if you buy it!

Vince,

My advice is to stay away from the Mad Catz wheel at any cost.   I
bought one for the PC (to play GP2), and it is absolutely pathetic
quality.   After much modification, mine is usable, but I intend to
rebuild it from scratch when I have the time.

Aside from the quality issue, the wheel is completely at the wrong
angle and feels like you are driving a bus rather than a race-car.

You get what you pay for I suppose.  I've had mine for a while and
it seems OK to me.  I couldn't justify the $299 Aust the T2 costs
here, and at under half the price, MC gives the realism of a wheel
and pedals, and with practice, I can lap quicker than I could with
my Sidewinder3d Pro or the k/b.

My main concern WAS the construction quality, but after opening
the unit up, it's clear that it is easily repairable from any rough
use, and the pedals (without giving enough spring) are satisfactory.

For half the price of the T2 (which I have tried), it seemed OK...you
can't expect a work of art for that price.  Hell, if you compare the T2
to some of the***pit based driving systems worth $000s - the quality is
absolutely pathetic there too.  The Mad Catz also seems to have kept
a lot of Playstation users out there very happy as well.

Ummm, it's not a race car or a bus...it's a computer :-)  The angle
was ideal for my desk and that's what matters.  (at least to me :-)

I'd suggest trying a T2, then a Mad Catz in a shop and see if the
difference is enough to warrant the extra cost.  Everyone has
different needs AND a different size wallet (and a different wife
standing behind them at the time ;-)

Vince, the T2 by thrustmaster is the best start. Its not the finest
one out there but its worth the price and it feels and handles fine.
Trash the Mad catz idea.

I bought a Mad Catz last week (sorry Thrustmaster, Buzz and the
others, but it's half the price of your T2, here in France) I don't
regret it for the moment. I can't speak about reliability. But
accuracy is good, install and use are easy. It's fun and comfortable.
These are a lot of buttons and a 8-way hat. It's cool.
Not THE top quality wheel, I guess (I can't speak about the other
ones), but you have what you've paid for.
I love mine.
