Spain 2001 was the race when traction control, launch control and fully
automatic gearboxes were allowed back into the sport. The better versions
allow the driver to override the shifts in a variety of ways, the most
common being semi-auto upshifts and fully-auto downshifts, or fully-auto
both ways but with an upshift override for short-shifting in certain corners
or easing the engine load on acceleration at the end of the race.

Actually, the TC in F1 is quite low, because there are situations where the
driver needs some extra right boot than high TC would allow. Witness in 2001
some drivers turning off TC to get the car to stop feeling so dead on turn
exit. The top teams' TC is fully adjustable in the car on a lap by lap
(sometimes even corner by corner!) basis, so it's not really calibrated for
a particular track at the start of the weekend. Some drivers use the TC as a
perfect setting and just ride it out of corners, others tend to set the TC
up as a guide and drive the car up to the point where the TC is just kicking
in.

Wellll..... if you want to be really realistic Benetton had it in 1995 and
Ferrari in 2000.
But it was actually only allowed after the British GP in 2001.
