Feature Input Requested for Sony's CART sim!

by Randy Magrud » Thu, 13 Mar 1997 04:00:00

Everyone,

I'm compiling a feature-request list for Sony for their Playstation
CART Indy car sim (they are expecting it from me).  They want to make
the best CART sim possible, so what I'd like to do is have people
e-mail me a feature request list in three sections:

MUST HAVE:  -- if it doesn't have this, its doubtful you'll buy it.
SHOULD HAVE:  -- features, which, if missing, would seriously detract
from an otherwise great sim.
WOULD LIKE:  -- stuff you think would be neat, but you wouldn't lose
sleep if they weren't there.

and as a bonus, I'd like to see (please limit to one each).

BEST/WORST SINGLE THING IN ANDRETTI RACING
BEST/WORST SINGLE THING IN FORMULA ONE

This goes for sim-heads as well.  Forget your assumptions about the
Playstation and let the suggestions to fly (especially since it
doesn't look like we're getting anything else ICR related from
Papyrus).

I will forward all of this information to my contact at Sony.  They
are very interested in seeing what you think.

Subject should be:  Sony CART Feature Request

Disclaimer:  I have been asked to also just remind that this is just a
wish-list that they'll look at, but they make no promises about what
will or will not be in the final product.

Thanks,

Randy

I have a wish! I wish for Sony to give the CART rights over to someone(not
naming any names:) ) who can really make it a great sim!

No flame towards you Randy Just Flamin' Sony!

>MUST HAVE:  -- if it doesn't have this, its doubtful you'll buy it.

- None of all the annoying bugs in F1 (AI pilot pit madness)
- Good AI for a change (hugh F1)
- No atrocious slowdown at some corners like F1 (what kept me from
buying it). WE WANT A STEADY 30 FPS!!!

- All the pilots, teams, adverti***ts, tracks, and up to date,
please ('97 season)
- Realistic car to car contact and physics (crashes).  If the car
should run into a wall at 200 MPH, it should look like it.
- Split screen mode.

- MANY options like Formula One.  Season, time trial, etc, modes and
linkup modes.

The crashes are in this game but can't really comment.

BEST: The prettiest Formula One game...
WORST: ...which could be the choppiest and stupidiest at times! :)

May I ask why you're flaming Sony?  And what leads you to believe that
they can't make a great sim?

MUST HAVE:

1.)  Split screen 2 player mode.  Two player games, especially 2
player racers have much greater replay value.  Linking doesn't count
because so few of us have the 2 player/2 TV resources required.

2.)  Analog control.  Support for NeGcon.

3.)  Easy to play, beginner setting.  Arcade mode.  This is the only
reason Rally Cross wasn't a run away success.

4.)  Pit stops

SHOULD HAVE:

1.)  Multi Camera Angle Replay similar to Nascar.

2.)  Multiple Camera views including in car and trailing.

3.)  Lots of configurability.

WOULD LIKE:

1.)  Mirrors

2.)  Real looking collisions with flipping cars.

3.)  Cars that look like they've taken damage.

4.)  To be able to configure and choose car colors similar to IndyCar
2.

5.)  2 player with Computer AI.

BEST/WORST SINGLE THING IN ANDRETTI RACING:

BEST:  Split screen mode

WORST:  Sound, followed closely by graphics

BEST/WORST SINGLE THING ABOUT FORMULA 1

BEST:  Graphics and Sound

WORST: Lack of Split screen mode.

Since I don't have a Playstation, here's my list:

MUST HAVE:
Death Mode(flips, fires, explosions, ambulances involved in crashes,
drivers flying out)
No IRL drivers
A Daytona track
NASCAR superspeedways like Talladega and more
Sponsors
a paintkit
MOST OF ALL(sorry for screaming), a PC version for DOS and Windows
pitstops
basic ICR2 features
Crazy pitcrew if they are mad at you
run over pitcrew
not that many bugs
Realism
'97 season
SHOULD HAVE:
A "Die-IRL" billboard
Tony George's body in the middle of the track
A special cheat allowing races in which you tow a IRL car and try to
destroy it
A round with obstacles like Union 76 spheres being thrown into the
concrete(just kidding!!!)
Would Like:
These extra tracks:
Rio
Homestead
Riverside
California
Ontario
Japan
