GP2 and PPro200?

by Marcu » Tue, 03 Dec 1996 04:00:00

Is there anyone out there running GP2 on a Pentium 200 Pro or any other
fast (overclocked ?) configuration?

I have a Pentium 200, STB Lightning 128 and 32Mb of EDO but still I have
to turn of skies and almost everythin in my mirror's and most of the
trackside objects to achive a decent framerate, 20+ fps.

Could U please tell me how much better say a Pentium 200 Pro, or a
overclocked system would perform in GP2.

Or is there any other upgrade I should try?

Thanx in advance

Marcus

Hi Marcus!

What is your GP2 Log:on score?

I have a Pentium Pro 200 overclocked to 233mhz with a Hercules Dynamite
128 2MDram Video Card which is supposed to be the best combination for
running GP2 at the moment and I have the following score using the
utility "Fastvid":

                CPU Speed = 441
                Video Speed = 642

Hope this helps you gauge your CPU performance versus a Pentium Pro.

Please if you can, post or email me your GP2 Log:on score.

Regards!

Hi Ray!

Thanx for answering my question!

My log:on score are:

Speed (c.f. DX2-66): 387
Video speed: 518

So there is a 14% diff in CPU and a 24% diff in video. That is a
significant difference tho it isn't huge.

What does this mean in reality, are you able to switch on the sky
texture?

I run in SVGA with all textures on exept sky, in the mirrors i plot:
Kerb, Track and Smoke. The texture in the mirrors are set to none and the
trackside objects to Medium. With this set I get estimated framerate:
25.6 fps but I have set it down to 19.6 fps.

When I drive on Monza, alone practising, I get a processor occupancy of
mostly 100%, 80% in lows and tops out to 140% in fast corners. In many of
the other tracks I have to use less trackside object (and maybe I should
at Monza to 140% isn't really god).

So I guess I'll have to buy a Pro after all :)

Regards

Marcus
