NSR .plr/Config.ini Questions

by Daru » Wed, 23 Feb 2005 17:11:32

It seems that there is more discussion here about NSR than RSC, HG,OLR,
& BHM so I'll go ahead and post my questions. Some of them may have
been touched upon (I read all the RAS posts re: NSR since the dmeo
released) but I am hoping for a little clarity. Here goes:

FYI:

P4 3.0
1024 MB RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb
Dell 1800FP 1280x1024x32 60hz

Config.ini File

1.      VBStrategy - what is it and what do the various settings posted
around the net actually change? I have seen various settings for
LCD's (which I have). How do I know what to use?
2.      VideoRAM - Why is it almost twice the actual ram of my card?
Should I fix it?

"Player".plr File

1.      Steering Help - Once activated (1=low, 2=high), what do the
various setting actually do? What are "new help", "grip" and
"original"?
2.      Race Groove - Set to "1". Notes state 2003 is painted and 2004
is generated. How do I change to generated? I haven't noticed a
different groove with the "1" setting.
3.      AI Max Texture Size - I have read that the options are 0(off),
512,1024,2048 & 4096. I have also seen suggestions of setting to 0 and
letting the computer decide the size, or setting a specific size.

General Questions

1.      During burnouts, only 1 tire leaves a mark. There was (I think) a
fix for this in the demo (.hdv file IIRC). Should I add the fix? Does
it affect the driving of the car, either for the better or for worse?
Will I be able to run Multiplayer?
2.      Can I increase the "sharpness" of the rearview mirror" Things
seem to be blurry in the mirror, not just low detail.
3.      Should I consider a video card upgrade? Suggestions? The Radeon
is about a year old and I have been pleased with it overall. I bought
it for the ability to use AA/AF with little to no FPS hit, when
compared to the GF4Ti4600 it replaced. Am I going to see a marked
improvement? The computer is new and won't be replaced for at least
12-18 months.

TIA.

I have played around in both files and (finally) have begun to see some
progress. I need to fine tune the visuals first, as if the eye candy is
bad, then the gameplay will have to be far better than NR2003 for me to
keep with it.
