ICR2: Patch questions with add on tracks

by William Dahm » Wed, 25 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I just put in 1.2 patch for ICR2.  Then I converted Bristol from nascar
1.  I also have indy and would like to put this in also.  Will all the
1.2 patch stuff take effect when I race these new tracks?
I didn't try installing the game, then the additional tracks, then the
1.2 patch.  Should I do this instead?  Would it change the add on
tracks?
Sombody who is knowlagable please reply.

Also, is anyone working on taking the 8 player Files from N2 and
putting them into ICR2?  That would be neat if Gerhard could pull that
off.

The patch fixes a few of the internal physics in both single, as well as
modem play...the patch also replaces a couple of the track.txt files,
but your converted tracks should remain intact.

But like you, I wanted to play things safe, so I made back-up copies of
my tracks and setups (the patch wont sve the setups as promised), and
the copied them back to their appropriate directories.  Also note that the
patch will cause some files (such as the drivers2.txt) to be "read-only".
The fix for this is to simply remove the read-only attribute from the
file.

On the 8-player code, no...  :(

Merry Christmas.

converted
tracks.  The patch is designed to look specifically for individual files
and to modify
those only.  If You bring in a converted track, it will have whatever
physics the
conversion program implements.  If it was written early in the icr2
lifecycle, it probably matches up with version 1.00.  Your best avenue for
more information would be to contact the person who wrote the track
converter program and ask him if the tracks hold up with the v1.02 patched
tracks.

Just a tip after I had a problem patching my version.
If some of your track files have been modified then in some cases the
patch will get halfway through and stop.

Run the patch with the /? option and you get a list of command line
parameters that allow you to set options like 'continue even if
errors'

That way it'll patch properly.

I installed the patch and then converted some Nascar tracks.

I noticed some big differences.   on Taladega for example,  you can now
control
the car and actually do laps without wrecking it. Every track I converted
was better.

The patch not only modified the tracks but other things in the exe files
which
changed the physics of driving the car on all tracks
