Thrustmaster GP1 + CH Pedals?

by ME van Schalkw » Thu, 25 Sep 1997 04:00:00

I'm thinking of buying a TM GP1 (mostly for use in GP2), but I intend to use
it with my existing CH Pedals (and use one of the GP1's paddles as a clutch).
Now, I understand that the paddles use the same axis, but which one?  And how
would this work if I wanted to use the pedals in the Car mode?

Any help would be appreciated before I buy it (Thrustmaster products are
very expensive in South Africa).

Thanks,
Marvin

I'm using this combo for over a year now and it's great. I use the
pedals
on the GP1 for shifting gears. There is no conflict (CH Pedals are on
the
x-axis and the GP1 pedals are on the y-axis) unless you use the adapter
of the T2 (needed for some (stupid) games supporting only 1 joystick).
Then the GP1 pedals are inactive.

Marvin,

I own a GP1 and have used it with the built-in paddles as well as the
CH pedals for running Grand Prix 2.

When using the GP1 by itself, you use a setup that designates the
wheel and paddles as joystick A. Steering uses the X axis of joystick
A and the brakes/gas paddles are on the Y axis.

When using the GP1 with CH pedals, the wheel functions as joystick A
(again using the X axis)  and the pedals are set up as joystick B (on
the X axis and Y axis).

The GP1 wheel/CH pedals combo will work very nicely with Grand Prix 2.

Here is a copy of a post to r.a.s. from last year:
Subject:      GP2 Clutch

   Hi,
I have owned a T2 for 6 months and have modified the ever
breaking pedal springs with my own springs which have more tension
therefore better control, I stiffened up the brake pedal quite a bit.
Last week I decided to test out Thrustmaster's Grand Prix wheel,
the place I bought it has a 30 day return policy. I wanted to use
shift buttons for GP2. I liked the shift buttons but hated the paddle
like break and throttle controls on the wheel. I had been using the
pedals so long it was hard to get use to the paddles. Just on a lark
on I hooked up the Grand Prix wheel to my pedals and now I have the
best of both worlds because I was able to calibrate one of the paddles
as a clutch and the pedals and buttons all worked!!!
