N2003Demo FPS?

Hi guys,

I got a weird one..................
System  P4 3.06 Hyper
             1024 RAM
             ATI 9700 Pro

All results are w/ no AA or AF

Using D3D & w/ 1024 X 768 X 16 I get only
51 fps at the back of the pack, start of a Michigan race.........
Using OpenGL I got only 31 fps...........

Using D3D 1600 X 1200 X 32 I get 47 fps (not much different then w/ 1024 X
768 X 16!!)

Why isn't open GL faster?
I would think this system would be MUCH better then that...........
Any ideas??

Forgot to mention.............All graphic options set
to max except "no shadows on cars", that a real
frame rate killer!!!

My GF3 is faster in OpenGL as well.

I would think you should be getting much faster fps as well. Gotta ask the
obvious question. You do have V sync turned off right?

D3D has been improved a bunch this time around and in some cases is faster
then OpenGL.  If your running track specular highlights that tends to be a
bigger frame rate hit also.
Keep in find the current demo isn't fully optimized, I know in the few final
builds prior to going gold there was a noticable performance increase.

Yup, sure do............
Maybe cause its only a "leaked demo" it isn't jiving w/
my machine very well.  It playable now but with 43 cars
it will be pitiful unless something really improves.  I upgraded
to my current spec's to run this game.  I sure hope I can w/
1600 X 1200 & eye candy on.............

Possibly the 9700 with Cat3's just runs better at higher res's?  I also
notice little fps increase going from 1024x768 to 1600x1200 and it looks
nicer.

Try 32bit color hank.  I run 2.7gig P4 and a 9700Pro and get better numbers
than this at 16x12x32 all details max except last set of shadows. 2XAA 2XAF
both quality.  D3D.

Actually I typed that wrong. Mine is faster in D3D not Open GL.

I run in 1024 x 768 x 32 bit color. I'm not sure but IMO the 32 bit color
really seems to help with the jaggies more so than bumping up the screen
res. I don't use any AA, and I edit the ini files so it only does 2 levels
of AF instead of the 3 the card is capable of.

43 cars will be a hard hit to handle for sure.
