NT2003: Bonnets made out of solid iron?

Perhaps im doing something wrong, but if i have a big smash in NT2003 the
bonnet hardly gets bent at all. Ive never seen it squash up like it should.
Even if i drive backwards and have a head-on (did this just to see if the
bonnet does get bent), all that happens is my wheels fall off and the front
2 corners of the car (not even the front middle) squash in. Bonnet is
basically perfect. If i have damage multiplier at 100% is that 100%
realistic or 100% stronger? If its 100% realistic is there a way to fix it?

Congratulations, you just discovered that the damage model in NT2003 makes
N2002's look realistic.  ;)  Nothing I know of to be done about that now.  I've
been playing with the damage.cfg, no good results (other than all damagable
pieces flying off the car the second you touch something...  lol)

Ah, a good base for a Ford Pinto mod then....

Only if there is an explosion that accompanies it. <VBG>

Sounds like they used the damage-modelling from F1 2002 too.
Front / rearwing can fall of and thats it.

It has vertex damage modelling.  You can dent any part of the car and
the hood/tires will come off.

The damage model is weak to look at, but OTOH it seems to have more of
an effect on performance than N2002 from what I've seen so far.

probably. since it had a major difference in F1 2001 / 2 :)

The damage models aren't even comparable between the two sims.  I've
actually hit a barrier hard enough to knock the steering alignment off
without having a tire come loose, something that I don't believe is
possible in the F1 series.  In the F1 games you can basically lose
wheels, lose wings, and damage the engine/brakes through abuse.  NT2k3
allows you lose the wheels/hood and damage the engine (not sure about
the brakes yet, someone needs to make an advanced options screen so
you can check wear/temp and adjust more stuff) but beyond that you can
destroy the aerodynamics by denting the bodywork to various degrees
and actually bend the suspension so that the car refuses to steer
correctly.  It's pretty nice actually in some respects, a very light
tap of the wall or another car will put a slight dent on the car, and
a harder dent/tap will do more damage.  There could be more happening
visually, but the actual sensitivity and effects on the performance of
the car seem much better than N2002 so far.
