You're kidding? My second car was a '58 A Coupe! Silver with red leather,
man I loved that car. I built the engine myself, slightly overbored with a
mild cam, but with the stock Zeniths. It would easily pull a Super 90 and
most SCs I ran across. I sold it when my daughter was born to someone who
had it very well restored and I still see it occasionally, some 24 years
later.
To answer your question, the first thing I did when I loaded up NFSPU was
jump in an A coupe just to see how close it was to what I remembered. Except
for the in-car sounds, I was very impressed with the handling, braking and
acceleration (except the ability to spin the tires under acceleration in any
356 in second gear, it just isn't going to happen!) but I was also impressed
with how good the engine sounded, from outside the car anyway. The sound
from in the car is like driving with ear plugs in place. I use the bumper
cam which has a pretty decent sense of speed.
One of my favorite sounds in the world is an un-muffled flat-6 Porsche
engine under full acceleration. The shriek it makes sounds like someone
tearing a giant sheet in half over the Dead's PA system. Some of the 911s
in NFSPU come close, thankfully I haven't had neighbors for the last 3
months.<beg>
