Whats the best racing game for Engine Sound

Graphics are getting better and better, physics and AI are generally
improving, but I don't think I've played a racing game, F1/Rallying/
Saloons/Sports Cars, where the engine sound has done anything for
me.

You know what I mean, that sound that makes the hairs on the back
of your neck stand up. Is this so difficult.

Interested to hear what readers of this newsgroup think as I have
not tried all games of this genre ?

says...
GPL of course. I cant  remember how the original sounds were like but I
think they were pretty hairlifting. Now i have found my own personal
soundstyle for the Eagle, Lotus, Ferrari.....WROOOM Not just hairlifting
but also headtearingoff sounds. You wont find better simsounds than
this. Enginsound is more important for a good sim than sidetrack grafics
IMO.

I think that GPL definately has the best stock engine sounds, but both GPL
and SCGT make it easy to insert any .wav file you want. GPL is bit easier,
but only because the small number of cars make the file naming convention
easier to deal with.

If you ever start feeling silly you can have an hour or so of fun with this
power.

Yes, definitely the only hair raising experience I ever had with a sim.
A friend of mine wanted to try GPL, so I put him in the Ferrari at
Kyalami, and once the engine hit the big revs down the straight he could
only grin and go, 'Whoa!'

Imo, GPL and N3 have about the best racing sound, especially the updated
sound packs folks have come out with for GPL.

GPL, without a doubt. However...and I'll probably get flamed for this one,
NFS Porsche Unleashed doesn't suck IMO (except from the***pit view...).

[DISCLAIMER - Yes, I admit I'm a Ferrari fan anyway ;)   ]

The original Ferrari noise is certainly the best noise I've ever heard in a
sim, shame it's not accurate (or seem accurate).
I remember playing the demo of GPL and thought "Hey, pretty I may buy". I
then visited some mates who had brought GPL that day. I went into there
house and heard this wailing noise. I had a blast around Zandy with the
Ferrari, tail out everywhere, feathering the throttle for the sheer hell of
it. Strangely enough, I brought GPL the next day. ;)

At the moment, I've got some new sounds from the net. The Ferrari is still
my fav (based on the actual V12 sound), though my Honda and Lotus sounds are
quite nice.

The engine noise was quite good in GP2, but better ones became available on
the net. F1RS and MGPRS defiantly had the worst original engine noises,
thank good someone fixed those!

Roll down the windows or put the top down.....  why do you think dogs
love sticking their heads out the window? nah just joking, I agree
that there should be a little more juice to the in car sounds in
NFS:PU.

The first time I ran NFSPU, I thought there was something wrong with my
sound card configuration until I watched my first race replay.  LOL  I only
race in-car and didn't realize the sounds were so good until I accidentally
hit external view <VBG>

Ya know, I've taken the demo off my  HD, and don't plan on buying this title
until I can get it for $15 or less, but..... I do love that Porsche Wooooom!
when the program starts up.

Are the 356 sounds just as good? First car was a '58 356.

Just an hour?  Geeze you can have DAYS of fun by tweaking the sound ;-)

Nothing as funny as 19 AI  revving to the "D'oh!" of Homer Simpsons ;)

I like the guard's song from The Wizard  of Oz.  Oh eh oh, Yooo oh. At
10,000 revs.

The sound of the GT2 is the best of all. The in-car is great (better
than the external view, which is good for me because I hate driving
from behind the car just to hear the better sounds.)

Another game with great sounds -- NHRA Drag Racing. I know, the game
totally sucked. It was one of the most pathetic sims ever produced,
but the sounds were EXTREMELY accurate and when the volume was
increased adequately, my subwoofer would make stuff start falling off
my desk. The sounds are the only reason to even consider playing this
game.
