ICR 1.05 Crack?

by Brian Wong - SMCC Product Marketing Engineeri » Mon, 29 Aug 1994 06:20:27

Hmm... I finally got my ICR 1.05, then scrounged around and found a hex editor,
and now for some reason the version I have does not have the patch strings
that were posted earlier.  (It has the first one, but not the second one.)
Since my copy is BRAND new, I wonder if I don't have a different microrelease
or something?  Mine's 742,377 bytes long and is dated 5-10-94.

PS got my Thrustmaster T1 too.  It made +8 mph difference to me a Michigan,
plus my tire temps are WAY down (by 65 degrees)! The only problem is that
the various parts of the T1 squeek/creak.  I'm afraid to go shooting oil
or graphite directly into the noisy spots for fear of botching some electrical
things, but it's driving me nuts.  Anyone opened one of these up to know
if that's an issue?

Only ONE (1) $tring is altered in version 1.05

If it's the steering wheel that squeaks and creaks, DO NOT OIL it!  It is a
large thick elastic bungee cord that creates the tension.  With a little time,
it should loosen up a bit and stop squeaking.  Oil or lubrication can cause
the entire cord to slip out of its locks, then you're with out your wheel for
a while.

If it's your pedals that are squeaking, as mine do, then oiling them would
help.  But I haven't gotten around to popping or drilling through those rivets
to get in there.  The choice is yours.  The tension in the pedals is most
likely caused by the steel springs, thus the squeak.

You should limit the travel of the pedals.  If you don't, and you use the T1 much
you will surely break the springs on the pedals.  You can limit the travel by
attaching wooden blocks as stops for the pedals.  I used 1 1/4 inch thick wooden
blocks that are attached (glue or screw) to the little "porch" so that the pedal
wheels strike them.  This will eliminate most of the noise from the pedals.  I
think it makes the pedals a lot nicer to use too.

BTW,
Replacing the springs isn't hard, but you do need a pop-rivet gun.  ($6.00 at Menards)
Thrustmaster is very good at mailing the springs if you need them, just email them.
