Can someone suggest any offroad or stunt driving games (for PC)?

You could do worse than "1nsane" by Codemasters. It's hard to beat some of
the tracks/cars for pure "rush"-factor.

Ratbag's Leadfoot comes to mind as well.

FYI: http://www.3dgamers.com/ has demos of both Insane & Leadfoot.  I have &
enjoy Leadfoot, but it only simulates indoor stadium racing. An oldie but
goody is SODA, but you can't use the acceleration of modern video cards, nor
modern FF.  (Man I wish they'd made a SODA sequel!  I wish there were a good
Baja sim, too, but I digress)  If you're interested in Rally sims, that
opens up a bunch of other options.

SODA was fabuloso (graphics aside).  I, too, wish they;'d followed
thru...but that seems to be Papy's weak spot, innit?

as jan stated, insane is pure, unaduterated fun.  the physics model is spot
on for what it's trying to accomplish, which is more arcade than sim, but it
has a random track generator.  the graphics and damage model are fairly
robust as well.

I too loved SODA but I do find it funny to hear people rave about it
here. I believe it was one of the worst selling racing games. I would
love to hear someone from Pappy or Sierra tell just how many copies
sold. That pgm went to the discount bin in record time if
I remember correctly. It was a shame, I think the biggest error was
requiring that POS rendition card for 3D. Just think how many more might
have sold with glide support instead. Oh well maybe someday someone will
do a sequel (and maybe a sequel for Tornado while I'm making wishes
here)

Since when did sales become a measure of quality.  For it's day, Soda
was head and shoulders above most sims for realistic physics that you could
interpret when driving.  As you said, the lack of 3dfx support meant only
N2 buyers would look at it.  A shame.

Couldn't agree more, I never said sales had anything to do with quality.
I still suffer through the crappy graphics to play SODA. If it had sold
though they may have offered a little more support, like the promised
glide patch that never say the light of day. Unfortunately it's usually
the brain dead "sims" (Deer Hunter 1,2,3,4,5 anyone?) that have mass
appeal, put $$ in the bank and keep getting new versions made, obviously
Nascar sims  are an exception to this.

'Screamer 4x4', despite the arcadey name, is a good offroad/4x4 simulation.
The physics are very good and the graphics are nice too.  Needs a fairly
powerful PC though.

So what?

quantity doesn't equal quality.

It didn't sold for various reasons, nothing related to the quality of it's
game engine.

Exactly quantity doesn't equal quality, but if you think
<insert game company here> would rather put out a "quality" game that
doesn't sell or a POS that flies off the shelf, you are kidding
yourself.

I just get frustrated when I see posts raving about a great game that
died a premature death because it didn't sell. Except for what, about 50
of us on RAS, (50 is probably being generous, I doubt 50 of us here own
or have owned SODA) who else even gives a damn.

Have a poll on what's the greatest racing game ever and GPL will
probably clobber every other game, but it too died prematurely, sure we
all keep it alive, but the games owner (Sierra) washed their hands of it
years ago. This little rabid group here still isn't enough to keep a
great game from being abandoned by it's owner (not necessarily it's
creator). Even though I don't know anyone personally from Papy who was
involved in SODA's or GPL's development, I'll bet it wasn't their
decision to give up on these games.

You know what they say "Money talks and Bullshit walks" (and apparently
sells too)

What I mean is, if you enjoy it, isn't that enough?

Actually there was a lot more people who owned Soda <G>  It sold around
35,000 iirc.

It didn't sell because the market was small for that, they didn't do any
marketing, they didn't much produce the game in many numbers, so you would
not have it in many stores.  The game didn't appeal to much, if you compare
to how Microsoft marketed their "Monster Truck Madness" series.

Actually, there is another suggestion... Screamer 4x4. It's a real
offroad racing stuff
where you make your own way around (mostly).

Yeah some other titles like 4x4 Evo.  I think Soda would have faired well
with modernised graphics if it was ported on a console.  Integrate the track
builder inside the game, and you have something very advanced in gameplay
and physics even for 2003.
