Eidos F1 Racing - could be a goodie!

It has cartoon graphics, stupid AI, numerous bugs, poor physics,
unrealistic tracks, bad replays and the cars handle like shopping
trolleys.

Eidos F1 Racing - could be a goodie!

I spoke to one of the technical guys at Thrustmaster today, who said he had
played a beta version of the game and thinks it is the best F1 game out
there. Apparently Eidos wanted TM's views on Force Feedback.

This contrasts with  average reviews in the UK mags C+Vg and Arcade.

Given the problems with every F1 sim since GP2, we all need this game to
work. Its release has been delayed until May 21st, so hopefully Eidos has
learnt from the mistakes EA made in rushing out Nascar Revolution.

I played the Official F1 Racing from Eidos and it was an average arcade
racer in my opinion. The graphics were great and it is the best looking
racer I have seen yet (I just love those fat round tires) but its no more
than that. An average arcade racer. The controls were dodgy at times and you
really notice its arcadyish physics when you try to spin the car. Maybe the
guy you were talking to played a different beta, but the one I had was OK.
Certainly wouldnt call it the best racer.

Sure, if there's a deal between Eidos and Thrustmaster what else are
those guys supposed to say? They'll certainly not tell you it sucks or
is Arcade or whatever - not that it would bother them too much anyway,
it really doesn't matter what type of game it is as long as you can
play it with one of their wheels ;)

No kidding! Every report here says the TM FF wheel sucks.
I am almost starting to think that game does too.

Problems with every game since GP2? Give me a freaking break. F1RS
and MGPRS2 blow GP2 out of the water. 3D sound, 3D graphics & weather
effects... No problem.

EA could have released revolution a year form now and it still would
have sucked.

This might be true.
If FF is the only criteria.

Not that there's any competition, though.

Huh.

The FF in F1RS with the MS FF wheel is awesome. But forget
that I guess you know it all.

I tend to agree.... Just the other night I fired up F1RS and ran a few laps
at Imola, then ran the same track in GP2 and ya know what....

I had more fun in GP2!

Sure it's not 3D.. But I frankly find lens flair annoying, and those
cardboard cut-out looking trees are distracting.

The only upside to F1RS is the weather effects, but the graphics are almost
over-done. GP2 has a very "clean" look about it that I still find attractive
after 4 years!

MGPRS2 has way better FF effects than F1RS. MGPRS2 is the only game that
I've played that the FF effects helps me control the car. The FF effects are
not a gimmic (spelling), like they are in every other game with them.
It's really cool to take a corner to fast, and feel the car loosing grip.
I've not felt this in any other game. Maybe this is one of the reasons I
think MGPRS2 has such great physics.

Are those the little Winn Dixie shopping trolleys, or the good ones at
Kroger?

:>F1RS
:>and MGPRS2 blow GP2 out of the water.

: As long as we're making sweeping statements.... "No they don't!"

Considering they were written 3(?) years after GP2, those games really
don't add much at all.  The graphics and sound are marginally improved
and it's nice to have weather effects - but everything else is pretty
much the same.

Right... Gp2's 3Dsound, 3Dgraphics and Force Feedback is
pretty much the same as F1RS. No big improvement there.

Um... I said the sound and graphics were marginally improved....
(As for "3D sound and 3D graphics" - I suggest you look a little deeper
than the hype - GP2 was 3d obviously, it just didn't have 3d accelerators)
Force-feedback I can't comment on.  But really...  name any other
genre of game where it would be acceptable to produce something which
had no advantage over a three year old product except eye-candy?  I'd
rather have kept the GP2 sounds and graphics and actually have some
game-play advances.
