sure lecture me about using this MS crapola....I'll listen...but something
has recently changed on my system....in the past, emails that I had read
would stay in the INBOX until I manually deleted them.  Now as soon as I
leave the email section all read emails are sent to the trash...I have
searched through the tools/options and in OE5+ tools/internet options but I
don't see a checkbox or setting that says///
delete the frickin email as soon as Dave reads it..
///
  What setting am I overlooking?

Heh...that happened to me once. Had to uncheck that stupid "hide read
messages" option. Who's the idiot that thought up that one? :-)

Of course, the best solution is to dump OE...

Makes a hell of a lot of sense in newsgroups...
(to me, at least ;-)

Dave...

Sound like you have the famous Outlook Express Trojan called
"LSHSTGRI.dll"......oh man!  When activated, it will alter your "view
settings" at random.

So long as you remember that all those emails and messages are still on your
hard drive. I'm giving OE a trial run since installing XP, but I've always
preferred Agent for both email and news, in Agent I just select the purge
read messages option manually to get rid of all the trash. OE is not bad
though, it's just not a power user's choice of news reader.

Agent, Free Agent (if you're cheap), NewsXpress.

Heh...I use a 56k modem. I did have DSL too not long ago. Problem was their
news server was crap. I'm actually getting better response time from the
news server at eol.ca using a 56k modem than I did at sympatico.ca using
DSL. Only problem is downloading binary files is now soooo slow now.

Like the way Agent handles binary attachments (and use it for this purpose),
but I like OE's interface better for general newsgroup use. And, as far as I
know, it doesn't do mail?

NewsXpress?? -You gotta be kidding... did they ever get that to work?

Actually, my cable connection has been a damn good experience. All the
naysayers claimed it woould bog down with increased usership.
NOT!!
My cable is faster now than it ever has been, this almost 2 years later.

Be aware that Xnews is an online news reader. ie. you can't download all
messages while online to read offline after you have disconnected the modem.
