welcome to the real world it has been like that in Europe for the last 5
years or so, the things works like that.

You have the race on a "public" channel (free) with, commercials, 2 in car
cams only and lousy commentators

OR

You have the race in 6 channels (main, battles in the back, inboard without
commentary on about 20 cars, pits, data, "patchwork" of all of them) WITHOUT
commercial breaks, with all the week end free practice, time pracrtice, warm
up, press conference afetr the races....good commentators...

On top of this you can "hack" the pay per view channels very easily, but it
is BAAAD, but it works fine...

This system is applied in France, Spain, Italy (?) and Germany, the cost in
France is 50 francs (that's about 8 Euros) for the complete week-end from
thursday until the press conference after the race, even if I had to pay for
it I would when I'm home.

The day F1 goes pay-per-view will be its nemisis. (Hope that came out
right!)
Sponsors *will* see that the "ratings" are hyped waaaaaaaaaaaay beyond what
it actually is, and budgets will plummit.

I think Papy actually did first start writing this so it should be pretty
good.
It has been through a lot of hands since  SSI , Mattel , Victory.

I think the car manufacturers are not too impressed with the idea of pay per
view as they will lose a high percentage of their viewers and hence
advertising effect.
I do not think it will happen.

No, you can't. Not in the UK anyway - you're stuck with the first
option.

Do you think the sponsors are going to carry on pouring their millions into
F1 if it is not going to have the mass global coverage it enjoys at the
moment?  I don't think so.

I'd like to know - do you have any links for how to do it, what
equipment you need etc.?

Yea, like those lawn tractors!
Not only is the racing better, the lawn tractor guys seem more
exuberant about their sport than the F1 multi-millionaires. ;-)

very simple, all you need is a satellite dish to astra, a receiver able to
process MEDIAGUARD coding (nokia has the 9800 for example, but there are
many) and a "special" card to put in  if you want it for free, otherwise you
can always subscribe to the regular channels and pay per view.

give me a mail adress for a more "private" conversation.

Thanks - would the Nokia work for Sky Digital as well or would I need to
run them both?

Also which "Cam" would it need?

I've actually *watched* these races before.  Sort of like watching GPL
F3's...<g>
Let's see how much flak I get for THAT comment...or see if people understand my
meaning... :)
