Joe Farr's World of Nascar Presents:

Nascar Racing by Papyrus

If you have ever desired to get behind the wheel of a stock car and race
against the big boys, Nascar Racing by Papyrus is for you.  There is no
feeling better than racing down the back straight of Talladega with no
friends at 200 mph, just fans.  You will have to work each and every lap to
get to the lead.  If you are already in the lead, you can not afford to make
a mistake or your day will be over.

I have never had a piece of entertainment software on my hard drive for as
long as Nascar Racing by Papyrus.  I have used this software every week for
over a year now and I still have to work on a few setups.  No other piece of
software has held my interest for over 2 months.

Nascar Racing by Papyrus allows you the option to make any race as easy or as
difficult as you want.  You can adjust the opponents strength to make the AI
cars faster or slower.  If you want to increase the strength of a specific
driver, you can edit the drivers text file.  If the AI cars are qualifying
too fast or too slow, a BLAP change can correct that.  One of the most
significant changes that you can make is the paint scheme for your car and
the AI cars.

Car Sets:

Nascar Racing by Papyrus allows you to have as many car sets as you want.  A
car set has to be placed in a separate directory.  The name of the directory
MUST match the name of the car set dat file.  Example:  If you create a car
set for the 1996 season and you called it "cars96", the directory name must
be 'cars96' and the car set file must be "cars96.dat".  If your dat file does
not match the directory name, the Nascar game will crash and you will not be
able to restart the game until you change the dat file name. The "gameopts.cfg"
file is now pointing to the invalid car set directory and will not allow you
to restart the game.  If you make the proper correction to the car set
directory and car set dat file, the game will start.  The other option you have
is to copy the "gameopts.cfg" file from your original Nascar Racing disk/CD
to your Nascar directory.

Paintkit allows you to design your own car as well as designing the other 39
cars in the car set.  There are two important parts of designing your car,
the base colors and the detailing of your car.  Base colors are used when
viewing your car from a distance.  When a car comes into view, the base colors
are drawn only as the car is too far away to see any detail.  When the car is
very close, the detail is drawn instead.  The base color should match the
background color of the detail.  If you have a blue background color with
black, red, yellow lettering on the back of your car for the detailing, make
the base color blue.

The only other file that has to be in your car set directory is the
"drivers2.txt"
file.  This file contains the drivers information.  Example of drivers text
file:

NUMDR represents the number of cars in the text file.  *NOTE*  The number of
drivers must match the number of painted cars.

NUMCH represents the number of chasis in the car set.  This number must be 3.

0 = Chevy  1 = Ford  2 = Pontiac

NUMT represents the number of tires in the car set.  This number must be 2.
0 = Goodyear  1 = Hoosier

DINFO represents the driver information.

than you must enter '10' infront of the second number.  "07" = "107"

0 = chasis type

These eight numbers represent power, traction, drag, and aggression.  The
first two numbers represent the minimum and maximum settings for power.  The
next two are traction, then drag, and the last two are aggression.  The range
of numbers used are between 001 to 999.  I'm under the impression that the
game randomly assigns a number that falls between the range indicated and that
is the number used for the entire race.

Power: The higher the power, the faster the car will be.

Traction: The higher the traction, the faster the car will be and the less
likely it will spin.

Drag: The lower the drag, the faster the car will be and the less likely
another car will be able to draft behind it.

Aggression: The higher the aggression, the more likely it will pass other cars
or prevent cars from passing him.

This information represents the drivers name, home town, state, country, and
team name.  You must use an underline "_" for all spaces.  The spaces in the
DINFO line separate the different fields.

*note*  The Power, traction, drag, and aggression settings are for the AI
cars only.  They do not apply for human drivers.

Track text files are found in the \nascar\track\anytrack directory.  We will
use the Talladega track for the following examples.  If you view the
"taladega.txt"
file, you will find valuable information for the track.

Much of this information should not be changed.  The three most important
lines of information are SPDWY, BLAP, and RELS.

SPDWY 1 42 45
      ^ ^^^^^
1 = restrictor plate on or off.  1 = plate on  0 = plate off.

42 45 is the AI pit window.  The AI cars will pit between laps 42 to 45 from
their last pit stop regardless of yellows.

BLAP 51009
     ^^^^^
The BLAP indicates the best lap the AI car turn in qualifying only.  51009 is
the time it takes to turn a lap (0:51.009).  If you lower this number, the AI
cars will turn faster laps.  If you raise this number, the AI cars will turn
slower laps.

RELS 98

The RELS is the overall speed of the game.  If you increase the RELS,
everything goes faster.  The speed of the AI cars and the speed of the pace
car under yellow.  By lowering the RELS, everything slows down.  I recommend
not changing the RELS.

Nascar terms you need to be familiar with:

AI  -  Artificial Intelligence.  AI represents the computer controlled cars
in the game.

Loose  -  Loose is a condition of your car.  If your car is loose, the back
wheels will lose traction before the front wheels will.  Overseer is another
term used for loose.

Push  -  Push is a condition of your car.  If your car has a push, the front
wheels will lose traction before the rear wheels will.  Underwater is another
term used for push.

Oversteering -  Oversteering is an error in driving style.  If you turn the
steering wheel too far, the car will go straight.  If you ease up on the
wheel, the car will complete the turn.

Tight -  Tight is a condition of your car.  If your car is tight, the front and
back wheels do not lose traction when taking a turn.

Make sure you have your friends come by the IVGA and sign up we need a 1000
