Just wondering if anyone can tell me what happens when you enter a
closed pit.
It seems that the only penalty is having to go to the end of the line for
the yellow?
Sometimes if you're the one who has caused the yellow and have a lot of
damage it
seems like the best thing to do??

That is exactly what the penalty is.  You have to line up at the end of the line.
I've never noticed it as much of a penalty either except when I've come in to
repair damage and I don't quite beat the pace car off pit road.  Then, instead off
being able to fall in behind the pace car or the 1st or 2nd place car and try to get
my lap back, I have to go all the way to the end of the line.  That kinda sucks.

What happens is (like real NASCAR) you get sent to the end of th e
longest line. It's worth entering a closed pit if you have so much
damage that you can barely drive the car, but if you can get the car
to the line it's better because you may be able to stay on the lead lap.
On the shorter tracks like Martinsville and Bristol, it's a good idea
to pit twice, once to take on tires and fuel, and again to repair danage
This will (hopefully) keep you from going a lap down.

You are correct, the penalty is to go to the end of the pack.  In real
life, you are sent to the end of the longest line (real NASCAR has
double file restarts on yellow -- with the lapped cars on the inside on
ovals).
