What happened to Steve Smith's additional writings to his booklet that came
with GPL?  He was continuing to writing more info on Eagle Woman's web site,
but now his writing seems to be gone?  Does anybody know where it is?

Thanks.

It's still there at this address:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/~alison/gpl/smith.htm
but he hasn't updated it for a while. I find his stuff some of the most
interesting and helpful material on GPL that I've read, and I am looking
forward to Steve's observations on trail-braking (which I can't seem to do
without disaster), and on shocks/bump ***s etc.
By the way is it only me or do others find the Lotus actually the easiest of
the fast cars to drive?

Well Tim, I can't say agree with Steve on the bump *** thing (another
topic, but go to my website below and see Chassis Tips for my spin on
it), but I DO think the Lotus is the easiest fast car... which is why it
is THE fastest. Other cars can be quite good, but no car in GPL matches
the Lotus in usable power AND begnin handling... when it is set up
properly. When it is set up wrong, it is evil. But a nice setup... it's
a real doll, and FAST!

Dave I just wanna say I enjoyed your site and have bookmarked it for
future reference. Are you gonna do anymore chassis tips??You explain
things very clearly and its a pleasure to read.Downloaded one of your
setups and am gonna try out the Brabham for the first time.As for your
problem of adding in too much steering lock try what I did and see it
it works for you too.Put a piece of tape directly down the center of
your***pit(on the monitor).I am starting to think that the left to
right***pit shift actually models front tire cornering force so that
as the tape moves off-center and hits its maximum, any further steering
lock gives little to no cornering force and youll instantly hear tire
squeal at maximum***pit shift:))Youll see the car set into turns and
once it does anymore steering lock gives negligable cornering force. As
you pointed out by adding excess steering lock you just scrub speed
and make corner exit a very hard task.See,since you cant feel  why the
car isnt turning more and since you cant feel the traction limit thru
the steering wheel you keep adding more lock. Then when you apply power
your all over the road from too much lock.I have a homebuilt wheel
with extremely tight springs and noticed how much less steering lock I
really need to execute the turns since my arms now dont get as
tired:))

hehe, when you setup the lotus WRONG it still drives fast (bump ***s low,
ride height low, toe in at maxes, stiffest springs and roll bar) you get my
point.

Hey Skeeter,

Thanks for the kind words...

I am also building a wheel and pedals... I'll be putting them up in a
little while, as well as some other slight site tweaks.
